Oil Pressure Spring

My oil pressure has been playing up, keeps randomly dropping to almost zero. Killed the engine and checked the oil level which is ok. Have been advised that it is likely that I need to increase the chamfer on top of the oil pressure relief velve. I have bought a new spring and valve and think I know how to change the spring. The question is how do I change the actual valve itself. Also do I need to drop the oil to change the spring / valve?

Errm, I am no expert but I understood that changing the spring only is usually sufficient to fix the oil pressure. Are you sure you need to change the valve too?

I had the oil spring changed recently and the pressure guage has gone haywire. I hope that the problem is the guage, not the oil pressure.

That sounds like my symptons however I've not replaced mine yet. Thing is even if it is a faulty gauge you cannot risk driving it in case its not.
Anyone know about dropping the oil?

I've had both of mine changed a couple of times.

The spring loses tension

Hold at shoulder height and let go? Might make a mess

Nothing special about it, just remove the two bolts in the sump and it comes out, assuming it's a V8.

Not quite so inept that I don't know how to drop the oil, question is do I need to before I change the spring and valve?

No as it's on the pressure side of the pump.

Might be a little left in the pipes but that's it.

When you remove the old one check for any debris in the hole.
