Got caught speeding
Discussion
Hi i've been summond to court for doing 116mph.
A friend who is a police officer in another county says based on what i told him i should plead not guilty, lawyer who i just told same thing to said i should plead guilty and expect a ban?
Anyone got any helpfull advice on possible actions?
was caught by a VASCAR not sure if this will have any bearing on the case!

It would be silly for my to give advice as to your chances wwithout knowing a lot more information.
For 116 though, thats a ban.
You should factor up how much a ban would cost you financially and consider the cost of a good specialist solicitor.
This will range from £500 to about £4000 for 'Mr Loophole' himself.
VASCAR is not an exact reading as it needs the officer to input figures to be able to calculate your speed. This is where there is space to 'fight' the case.
However, to fight a case you WILL need a specialist traffic solictor. They almost without doubt will know much more about the specific situation than the local CPS brief who will be fighting the case.

I got caught for 113mph in 2005 - £600 fine and 28 day ban. If you are guilty I say plead guilty, if you were not doing the speed plead not guilty. In my experience going in their looking smart presenting yourself well and saying sorry helps. If you get off without a ban you will have done very well I was told I got off fairly lightly. If you try to wriggle out of it they might just throw the book at you!

Agreed. This is the reason why its best to get professional legal advice and representation as soon as possible.
If they tell you that there is not much chance of winning, by far the best scenario is to do exactly what barrisimo says.
You will still get some benefit for pleading guilty, which may reduce your fine and ban.

Should this be so, it sounds like the ton up was one of those momentary lapses of concentration as happen to chief constables, deputy chiefs, assistant chiefs, and other senior police ranks from time to time, or (in some cases) their drivers. You will still get some benefit for pleading guilty, which may reduce your fine and ban.
At least with a VASCAR calculation they weren't following you for a ten mile lapse of concentration unless it took that long to catch you - how far was it?!
Good luck, whatever you decide.
