Any of you guys know what I should be paying for an early 996? I have about £30k to spend. Am I gonna get anything worth while or should I go down the 993 route.
Also can you get aftermarket GT3 bodykits in the UK?

The early (97/98) 996s are obtainable for £30k but only in LHD and only as C2s. With a bit of haggling, you could even get a good one for £28k. However, I found the specs on these quite low. Dont think the C4 came out until 99 anyway. If like me, you dont mind a left hooker, I would add a couple of gran and get a well specced 99+ C2. I just think the clearer lens look better.

By the way, stumbled across a few 98s with the GT3 kit (RHD) for £34/£35k

Just bought my 99/T conv (LHD) a few days ago so I am still up to date with the market. Drop me a line if you need any help.

From what I can see early 996 prices are under pressure
phone a Porsche buyer for current trade values of 98 R reg. & then expect to pay around 2kish more in a private sale. Most private advertisers overprice their cars & they sit in unsold for weeks, so you will have some hard work to get a realiastic price. Two best sources are Sunday Times & Top marques, I think you should get a low mileage RHD 996 on an R for early 30s with a bit of leg work, but make sure you get it checked over at a main dealer.Happy hunting.

I've said this before but a good late 993 is currently worth WAY more money than an early 996. 98 996's are DEFINITELY obtainable for £30k in RHD. A lot of people will swallow a very bitter pill if they try to get out of a 996 at the mo. THey are unloved in the trade at present and prices are only going one way.

Seems to me that £30k seems a good level to buy an early 996,from the recent posts there seems to be a lot of interest now prices have come down to these levels.I don't think they are going too far any time soon.
The depreciation curve should flatten out.the only thing I can see causing real harm is if the current crisis causes a sustained stock market crash,in that case cars of £50k+ are gonna hurt more.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Are there any pitfall I should be aware of when viewing a prospective purchase.
I have heard a lot of good things about Porsche reliability. Would you agree it's one of the most reliable super cars?

Early 996s have not been as reliable as one may expect, but they are still fantastically well built and very reliable compared to other supercars.

There are too many points to list on any car, let alone a 996, and they are quite complex compared to earlier 911s. If you are worried about reliability I would suggest you either:

- Get an inspection, through an OPC perhaps
- Get a warranty
- Or both

Cheers
