I have two screens next to each other, both set to 1280x1024 resolution. Is it possible to stretch an image across both, ie show images of 2560x1024?

Control panel> Display> Desktop > Stretch

Obviously is the image is only say 1024x700 it will look odd stretching it.
Easiest way is to create a new image in photoshop with the total size of both screens.

I have a 2560x1024 wallpaper across two 1280x1024 TFT screens. You have to select the Tile position to get it to correctly span the two.

If you want to get a normal resolution wallpaper to go across both you'll need to use Stretch, but it will look wrong. Either google for wallpaper 2560x1024 and find one you like, or take an existing image at the largest resolution you can find and photoshop it to fit. This normally involves a resize to get the hotizontal resolution and then a crop to get it right all round.

As an example, here's my current wallpaper in 1600x1200 when using my laptop screen and 2560x1024 when using my external displays.

As you've already discovered, once you go for the dual screen option there's no looking back. I have a couple of LG1980Q 19" monitors.

Whilst not essential I would highly recommend downloading a program called 'Ultramon' from:

www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon

If you do this PM me and I'll provide some additional info.

There are several sites that allow downloads of dual monitor wallpapers (that's a good Google search term by the way) and two of the best are below:
