Question on number plates
Discussion
Do we all have those nice reg plates with dealer logo and junk written along the bototm?
As my last car was a 1996 it had clean plates with just the reg on them. All very legal.
Currently I'm on a 51-plate with yukky plates displaying dealer logo etc.
Here's the question: I'd like clean ones (just reg) but will the BiB really pull me for it?
I'm also taking all the cheap and nasty plastic lettering off the boot (makes polishing easier and looks better IMHO). I just like the car plain as it ws designed.
Any coments muchly appreciated

t!) Plate must conform to BS AU 145d in that New plates from 1st September 2001 must carry the makers’ name/ trademark or other means of ID of maker, plus name and postcode of supplying outlet.
This ties in with the reguirements of plate suppliers under Vehicles Crime Act 2001 etc in that they have to register and keep records.
Regarding changing position of rear plate look at Part II Reg 5:

I'd think it highly unlikely to be pulled for 'clean' plates as long as they are legible etc, personally I'd get them from an online sign maker to avoid the stasi-esque 'papers please' crap at your local Halfords etc.
But of course we all know that number plate cloning has ceased to be a problem now that we have these new laws in place for our safety

An interesting question arises in respect of personal plate. If you have a set of legally spaced personal plates which you obtained before 2001 and you buy a new car, transferring your personl number to it, can the original plates be fitted or must new ones be obtained. I know you'll probably never get stopped for this if you simply transfer the old ones, but legally?

So you cant just have a plate with the reg on without any other markings ? you have to be an advertising board for who ever you bought the car off ? the uk just becomes a shitter of a place with every day that passes , i hate this
ry with a passion now . few more years and im gone with a 2 finger salute .imbecile said:
Does that apply to plates from all of our four countries, or just England and the sheep shagging one?
The laws on the suppliers are for those supplying in England & Wales at the moment. Scotland & Northern Ireland are being added in the Road safety Bill. Of course any displaying offences are commited by drivers where ever they got the plates from, you can't say I bought it from a Northern Ireland supplier so the regs don't apply.
Then what are the rules on silver and black plates? I've seen many modern cars displaying these plates, yet I always thought that plates made after a certain year (I thought it was 1972, but can't be clear on this), had to be standard yellow at the back, white at the front, with black lettering?

Only vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white”
plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.
The modern cars you see are commiting an offence.

Or, perhaps, your car is registerd in Liechtenstein, a country which still respects the privacy of its citizens ahead of convenience of oppression.
We should learn from them, they also don't waste their money on armies to do others dirty work or get precious about tax avoidance...
Hi All
I get pulled all the time as I bought my car in the Isle of Man, the BiB told me I was fine with the plates but because the car is from the IOM they have no record of it; and asked if I pay any parking tickets as they would not have an address to send the fine to. Also asked about the congestion charge, speeding etc.
