Wet Footwell :- (

Well the car living outside (at least until we move early next year) is taking it's toll. Passenger side carpet sodden and a lot of water has been getting in. The good news is that I am sure it has coped admirably before with fairly heavy downpours so I am levying the blame at my recent battery change as I know this is a key area for water getting in.

Have armed myself with a silicone gun and am ready to go to war. Is it best to do under the nut and fixings and then bolt it down or just silicone around the area once it is all back together? I also have some getting in around the door seals on the drivers side, not too bad but it is getting the side carpet just under the door damp and starting to seep over, are there any tricks to stop this, there was a little damp patch over the top of the seal so I assume this is the point of entry, this corresponds to where there is a cutaway area on the door, any tricks to stop this.

Also any other areas I should be checking whilst I am tooled up, did try a search but it is on Google search at the moment which isn't very specific.

I think it's more likely door seals on the passenger side. I don't recall anything in the engine bay that needs silicone-ing that prevents water getting to the passenger side, it's usually the drivers side that's affected.

If you park on a slope - try parking the other way round, that way the water may not pool in the places where there's evidence of leakage. Make sure the door seals are correct and are correctly fitted - incorrectly fitted or trimmed seals are a common problem.

Or buy a Covercraft cover?

Oh really, will check the seals then. Thought I had read someowhere about the battery nuthole thing being a culprit, damn this search facility.

I cant recall anything either, except maybe the battery nuthole as you say. It's fairly easy to get to so you might as well do it to elimitate it.

Another place worth looking tho, is under the wheel arch.
My boot used to fill up on the drivers side, I tracked it down to some iffy fibreglass work just behind the wheel arch.

Found the thread that I remember from a while back. Battery nut mentioned so will have a crack at that and will water test my seals as best I can.

I used Evostick (Or something like that) Silicone Roof and Gutter Sealeant from B&Q. (Make sure you get the Silicone one, there is a also a Bitumen onee with the same name)

To rejuvenate the rubber door seals rub vaseline into them as this will make them slightly sticky and soft again and so should seal better

I spent the weekend with towels and hairdryer irrigating my drivers footwell. Leaking from somewhere, and only in exceptionally heavy rain, but god knows where!

I know how you feel. After heavy rain I get water in the footwell of the drivers side. Sometimes its so bad I should get the speedos on. Still havent worked out where its coming from though. Gonna get me a cover I think

I dont have this problem so cant really help, but there is a panel behind the pedals that you can pull out.
It then exposes the pedal box, and a few other bits and bobs. If water is coming in through the clutch or brake 'hatches' (in the engine bay) then you may see signes behind here.

I had wet footwells - It was was leaking through the brake reservoir, even thiugh the sealing looked OK, I cut it all out with a stanley knife, resealed it with Silicone Roof & Gutter sealeant (B&Q), and never had the problem since.
