WSBK Champ Troy Bayliss to replace Gibernau for Valencia
Discussion
One off ride as Sete is out due to the injury sustained at Estoril.
Two years after riding what he thought was his last race for the Ducati Marlboro MotoGP team at Valencia, 2006 World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss will return next weekend in place of the injured Sete Gibernau.
Bayliss will rejoin former team-mate Loris Capirossi for the last ever 990cc MotoGP race after Gibernau was declared unfit to ride following treatment to the collarbone he broke at June's Catalan GP, then damaged again at the recent Portuguese GP.
Bayliss contested the 2003 and 2004 MotoGP championships with the Ducati Marlboro Team before being sacked and replaced by Carlos Checa. Bayliss moved to Camel Honda for 2005, only for his season - and MotoGP career - to be prematurely ended by a serious wrist injury, but the Australian bounced back in perfect style by returning to WSBK, with Ducati, for 2006 - and clinching his second world title.
In contesting the final 990cc MotoGP event, Bayliss will 'bookend' the public life of Ducati's 990cc Desmosedici because he also gave the V4 its first public outing at the 2002 Valencia GP, riding a few demo laps alongside Ducati test rider Vittoriano Guareschi. Both Bayliss and Capirossi have scored podium finishes on the Desmosedici at Valencia, Capirossi taking third in 2003, Bayliss third the following year - on what had looked like being his final Ducati GP ride.

Also, how much diffenrence (in lap times, BHP) is there between a MotoGp bike and a WSB?
Bayliss's F04 Ducati Superbike is quoted at around 180bhp maybe a little bit more (the other 4 cylinder 1000cc bikes are around 200-210bhp). The Desmosedici MotoGP bike is upwards of 230bhp, but of course it's lighter as well.
Figures might vary slightly depending on where they are written and when (power increases through development throughout the season) but the differences will be about the same.

Often wondered how he'd get on. What do we think?

One size fits all Pirelli tyres or bespoked Bridgestones ...... carbon brakes ...... loads of extra weight on the SBK ...... prototype engines with launch/wheelie/sophisticated anti spin ........ it's a massive difference, or more!
I remember seeing a video of on the the MCN guys (was it Trevor Franklyn?) on an RCV211 last year ..... worth a watch if you can find it!
yeah i think its 2 years too, I doubt he'd want to leave either he wouldnt get a top ride as ducati have signed Stoner and Capirossi for the A-team plus WSBK will have Troy, Toseland, Haga, Biaggi and maybe a returning Hodgson for next year so should be top racing. Ducati are going to be allowed to use a 1200cc v-twin soonish too. Seems a strange one to me that as the whole reason all the manufacturers left WSBK a few years back was because of the V4's only being allowed 750's against the Ducati 916/55/66/96/99cc twins but I'll enjoy as long as it lasts this time

Bayliss still has unfinished business in moto gp ..and this may the time to pull something spectacular out the bag...
