What about Herefordshire?
Discussion
We're looking to get out of the Non-Democratic People's Republic of Bristol. We're naturally drawn to Dorset, but in the summer it clogs up with people who are not "local" (and take it from me, my wife and I are very "local").
Herefordshire on the other hand seems to have most of the advantages of Dorset except the sea, but also cheaper property and a healthy disregard for what goes on in Westminster. Apart from the obvious proximity to Wales
and the sheer distance to anywhere (which I think is why I like the place) what are the problems with Herefordshire? Someone here must have views about the place which aren't based on a couple of holidays.

We currently live in Oxfordshire and have seen the roads and countryside steadily fill up with people in th apst 20 years or so. It's not exactly crowded, but does have rather a lot of traffic on the main roads, and we also live near an airbase which provides a the increasingly frequent drone of helicopters.
We found Dorset was very nice, but that the land was too expensive for our budget. Herefordshire appeared to provide what we wanted, but at a lower price. As you say, I guess it's cheaper due to lack of Motorway access and distance from any large cities, but what we me leaving home soon and my parents retired, that doesn't matter to us.
Not sure if that's any help, but at least it proves you're not alone in your thoughts!
