this could be, because the HTML number for ASCII charcters end with an " ; " (example: € or € for " € " ), and the forum software interprets the " ; " and the following " ) " as
The forum software doesn't replace the HTML numbers with the according charcters (in the actual thread; it works in the preview though), since some members used these to circumvent the swear filters with these.

Needs to be a keyboard with the € symbol printed on the "4" key...
Not true in my case - I have a £ symbol on the [4] key...and I have a standard Dell UK PC before the "concise police" arrive
