I just checked my engine oil (Chim 4.0 R) and have noticed it need topping up. The handbook reccomends 5W 50 Mobil one, which I can't seem to get anywhere. Would the OW 40 be suitable for topping up?

and when I do come for a complete change, what oil would you suggest.

I am new to this so I apologise if I sound a bit dim.

try and put 15-50 mobil 1 in it if you can-the 5-50 is nla,but 15-50 is, although not as common as 0-40,still readily available and will give better hot protection than the 0-40.were currently having a good debate about this on a current griff thread.all above imho of course.

Checked some of the other threads and it looks like I should be using Mobil1 OW/40 or 15W/40 or Millars 10W/40 or maybe a 5W/40 unless you can get 10W/40 someone even reccomend Ground nut Oil with some salad dressing and a pinch of salt

Does it really matter as so many different people seem to be using all sorts of different oils. H

alfords do a 5W40 this seems fairly close to what the handbook suggests.

Check Millers oils web site they seem to recomend CFS 10W60 fully synthetic for high torque V8's,I've been using this spec for the last two years with no problems, however a pal of mine recently started importing the Motul range of oils which are reportedly excellent,so next change will be Motul.

There also Valvoline Syn Power 5W50 if you can find it, just had the Griff serviced by Joolz and this is what he recommends.

Cheers,

Simon.

I'm using French Mobil 5-50 in mine (from Carrefour). 8 litres just about pays for the ferry trip go get it and the cheaper wine/beer more than pays for the gallon of fuel I use as well

Really?
My 95' 5.0 which I've had for 6 weeks now has managed to get thru 4ltrs of Mobil 1 in 2000 miles!......Hence my interest in going for something thicker....is the Castrol good then?.....I can get it cheap I think via work (work for BP who own Castrol).
