Can anyone please explain to me the attraction that London seems to hold over so many people? I hate the place personally, but there seem to be limitless numbers of people who will do anything they can to live there, in overpriced houses.

This rant-ette really comes from watching Relocation tonight, focussing on a pair of muppets who wanted to sell their house in London and buy a place in Wiltshire, and a 1 bed flat in London to live in during the week. Total budget £400k. They had strict ideas on what they wanted for the country property:

- quiet
- pub nearby
- up to £220k
- big garden (for stupid little frikkin dog)

They rejected all the suggested places because they were too noisy, no garden etc. Then went and bought a place right by a busy road with no garden FFS! I mean, why go on the show if you're going to act like a couple of spoilt tawts and then go totally against your own requirements?

So, back to the London thing, they're left with £180k to buy a ONE BED flat in a grotty part of London. I mean, WHY??? £400k will buy a nice place, in the sticks, within commutable distance of London. Why do people insist on living there?????

Ahhhh... much better. Bad day at work, as you may have noticed, followed by to relax a bit!

To get on TV. I'm looking forwardto the Grand Designs show tomorrow. the listings say that they refused to reveal their budget, could be interesting if they're as stuck up as they sound.

It got totally on my breasts awell - Give two busy profs a remit -then go and find your own place
Over budget and on a busy main road with no garden and no view - T---ers!!
only reason they show these t--ts is the length of time the house hunt must take to film.

Agreed - I took an instant dislike to her - fussy, stuck up cow. I wanted them to get in the bidding war for the chapel and end up blowing all the budget on it - idiots.

Utterly amazed at how calm the presenters were - one quite diplomatically said at the end if they'd have shown them the place they ended up in they'd have accused them of not listening because it had no garden and was right next to a noisy road

Slightly O/T but this programme goes to show that house prices in this country are governed (at the middle to higher end of the market) by snobbery and nothing else.

Not build quality, room size and number, surroundings etc but just pure snobbery.

Most of the houses you see on this type of program are absolutely crap, and put in wales or scotland or northern england would be worth fcuk all. In the south of england, full to bursting with 'up'n'coming socially-aware" individuals its all about the status.

Remember that twat who bought the broom cupboard in the eighties boom off Oxford?? street.

Have to agree with you Miniman. We sold up in Clapham and Streatham, and moved out to the sticks almost a year ago. Best thing we ever did, space, fresh air, lots of wildlife, good neighbours and real village atmosphere.

London, smelly old place

I thought the presenters showed the patience of a pair of saints - snooty reactions to all their efforts, followed by a choice which completely went against the brief - being charitable (not sure why!) maybe they realised as they went along they wanted something different from what they had said, but why didn't they own up and say so?? they could have had help and found something better then that.

I like the attractive car park at the back of their 'massive' garden - nice. The first house ( the noisy one !! ?? ) was much better.

Kirsty who presents it is a strange one. Sometimes I would - sometimes I wouldn't.

Did anyone see the bloke on 'Living the dream' ?
What a tosser. He was so lucky to have nice builders and yet he was messing them about and getting angry with them when they wanted paying for work they had already done..!!

I couldn't believe he also went out to buy a restaurant in Spain without actually having secured a loan before leaving.

Some people.

lucky for the guy that they were being filmed, had the cameras not been there I think the guy would have been up against a wall and 'made to pay'

I thought it was quite comical, considering they were both so completely devoid of humour. I'd have enjoyed seeing him try to convert that Chapel for £20k
Divorce within 5 years I reckon.

I don't understand why anyone would want to live in the middle of frikkin nowhere when they can live in a capital city that most people in the world dream of coming to! London is great - provided that you have the right mental attitude to living here. It's not one one huge homogeonous place - it's hundreds of villages all butted up against one another, and the people that live here react much better when you treat us like friendly locals rather than weird strangers. Yes it's expensive, but no more so than most other major capital cities.

If you don't like it, then don't live here, but don't slag it off or you're asking for a bit of a slap (as they say here in Camden).

anyone else think £350k for a place in Elephant and Castle was a bit steep. I used to go to Uni just round the corner and it never appealed to me as a place I'd want to live

Did she look a good ten years older than him to anyone else or was it just that she had one of those 'bulldog licking pi$$ from a nettle' faces?

How eloquently put...

I cannot believe the "understanding" displayed by the presenters, I would have gone off on one.

I moved out of London a few years ago back to Suffolk, and I am astounded that the property prices here in Woodbridge are not that far off Clapham (I rent by the way!!) - due not in small part to to**ers like the two last night who decide that Woodbridge "is quaint" and want to live here for two nights a week. [end rant mode]

I am trying to buy at the moment, and have been out bid by weekenders - drat & double drat - on more than one occasion!

I want a place where I can ride my crosser in the back yard and I want to do my gardening with a chainsaw/JCB

Also want to be on good roads before my car has warmed up, not just after it's overheated

London, nice place to visit, crap place to live

As a Londoner (for another 3 days - woohoo!) I can confirm that its a pants place to live. Its like market day everyday and to be honest I dont think its finished yet.

The country is just nicer, lovely fresh air, relaxing, good amount of space and your neighbours probably arent distilling Ricin out of Castor beans.

As for that couple on that show, well now I know why estate agents are such tossers, who wouldnt be when they have to deal with clients like that. Umm, we'd like the impossible please, yes, the impossible it is thanks.

Matt.
