Just seen on e-bay,someones selling the crank, rods and pistons for a 5 litre Griff/Chim.Current bidding is looking very cheap i'd have thought. It also has a pair of heads(1 damaged). How much does it cost to weld and re-skim heads? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TVR-Rover-V8-5-
It's not me selling BTW!

yes, they're the same heads as my 2000 car by the look of it.I think all RV8 heads went to 10 bolt in the later yearsscratchchin

And earlier, I have 95 heads on the 4.6 which are 10's.

Also have a spare 4.0/4.6 block if anyone wants one.

Just one other thing: just the crank, rods, pistons and heads from a 500 do not turn a 400 or 450 into a 500.

I'll concede that they may turn the capacity of the car into something approximating 5 litres, but that doesn't make it a 500.

A skim is about £20-30 if you have word at a decent engineering shop, the welding not much more either i would have thought, depends who you know. Its not an x-bolted block so i assume yours is not either otherwise you will have difficulties.

We had one head welded a couple of years back, with no issue since.

It helps if the chap doing the welding knows exactly what he's doing, of course.

In my case it was Dom at TVR Power. thumbup

I just meant that if someone was buying those bits with a view to turning (say) a 400 into a 500 that the differences between the models was far greater than just that.

But having looked at mongoose's profile now I can see he has a Griff 500 so the above doesn't apply. As you were; carry on. Nothing to see here.

How about the ECU for starters.. I'm pretty sure the 500 has a different one to the 400.

Why not just sell the 400 and buy a 500?

It has to be easier?

Just buying one is missing the point, ok if thats what you want to do but some of us are compulsive tinkerers! Mine started life as a 400 and know its a 4.6 that makes more power than a 5.0, it has 4pot, 330mm brakes, cossie rears, upgraded ECU, shortly to be changed for emerald, and maybe a turbo over christmas, all on a budget too. Some of you just love to polish em, thats also fine.
