Hi,

Can you tell me where on the bottle the break fluid should be at. Mines just below the "Plastic white line".

Reason is I don't have my manual to hand and I had two "Break Fluid" warnings which disappeared when cleared.

Thanks in advance.

Manual says up to the max.

Fluid is Mobil universal brake & clutch fluid SAE J1703

I hate to say this and probably wouldn't but I have Ray dictating over my shoulder....

If the brake fluid level is falling, the most likely cause is a leak of the clutch slave cylinder, because the reservoir serves both the brakes and clutch.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. Take it into the dealer asap, as you wont be able to change gear soon! The brake/clutch fluid should never need topping up apparently. If it does, then you probably have a problem!

Or...

if you have been on a track recently you may have cooked the fluid,

i did this and fluid escaped from the bleed nipples, ( knows how as they were tight as when i checked) put in new fluid and was fine. just above the white crease in the bottle.

Thanks all for your replies.

It was between max and min.

I stuck 100ml in on Sunday before the drive back to Brum. Hasn't used any since.

Rang Power this morning and they weren't too worried and told me to keep an eye on it. Yes it could be the clutch slave cylinder or it could be due to break pad wear.

I've no symptoms; clutch, biting point and gear change all normal.

She's going in on Friday for an upgrade so they'll have a look see.

I had a bit of seepage from a front brake nipple once at Oulton Park. Tried retighening it to no avail. Its not done it since my last fluid change/bleed (i.e with a big service).

I can accept that it might never need topping up if all is well, but surely the level would gradually fall as the pads wear?

Cheers
