Ive lost my snap, crackle and pop.
Discussion
picked my car up yesterday after having another re-map.there was issues regarding driving in town.In traffic the car could be very jerky and became pretty annoying. What a difference the map made. Now driving in town is a dream. The car is silky smooth through out the rev range in every gear and pulls strong, but the downside is that when you lift off the throttle the car sounds dead flat
.No pops no crackel and definatley no snap.Apparently this is to do with the fueling which has now been altered.Ive been told that to alterate could compromise the smooth running.I love the way the cars running but miss the bangs. What would any of you do??

Personally I'd rather have the performance, and smooth driving of a well set up car, and no pops and bangs. Than have pops and bangs and less performance, IMHO theres too much of a pr-occupation with making Cerbs sound NOISY, my 4.5 is totally standard, and it pops and bangs beautifuly, Loud, but Noisy, theres a big diference.

I agree totally with your thoughts. But for the life of me i cant get it to produce any pop or bang what so ever.Ive tried everything in every gear at every speed and nothing happens. As soon as you lift the throttle its completely flat. Its still loud on throttle, but nothing after it.Maybe, like you say there is probably to much emphasis on making noise and not worring about the smooth running, but as ridiculous as it may seem a Cerb doesnt sound a Cerb unless its making all the right noises.
I had a similar issue with mine, had a complete service, re-mapped all the works and when I got it back, NO SNAP, CRACKLE or POP, really missed it, got de-cats, sports exhaust. And thats what I nearly love about my car the most.
I spoke to my dealer and explained, all they had to do was incease the fuel flow, have a richer mix going through he carbs, beacause all that is at the end of the day is unburnt fuel, well they did that and it's a beauty.
Only thng is that it's a tad more thirsty, cant even notice when you cane it.
Best of luck.
Chris.

you hace CARBS! surely you mean injectors?
A Cerb that don't pop and bang is just not on sir.....you must get a grip...have a word with yerself...and the car...under no circumstances must you drive this upstart as it gives a bad impression for the rest of us.....the general public will become accustomed to aural friendly Cerby's....and dogs will laugh at you....
you could always have the quad-button dash conversion if all else fails.Confusing thread .. the ecu targets lambda 1 at all parts of the map that it is enabled on, that includes the part for slowing down on a closed throttle .. that part of the map has nothing to do with the part you use for driving around town, therefore whatever changes were made to make town driving better should have no effect on the popping and banging as you slow down.
You need to get more information on what has been done to the map because you can get smooth town driving and pops and bangs a-plenty, they aren't mutually exclusive.
It is posible to disable the lambda control in parts of the rev range in the MBE ecu, and i use this sometimes on decatted cars that have particularly poor town manners, but only do it in the areas causing a problem and leave all the rest under lambda control because it's sensible to do so. I wonder if your mapped lambda control has been disabled across the whole rev range and the map just richened up to eliminate the poor town driving symptoms?
There is no logical reason for you to have lost your beloved popping and flames

Isnt the P&B caused by the valve timing and the design? Theres a big overlap in them so Fuel is injected into the cylinder just before the exhaust calve is closed, so a portion of unburnt fuel is sucked out with the exhaust gas, and this is what causes the pops and bangs, so maybe the timing is out. If the timing is out, a Dynamic chip mapping would just map the car as efficiently as it can based on the current settings.
You can make almost any car pop and bang if you want, all you need to do is to get the exhausts very hot (easy on a lambda 1 mixture!) and get some unburnt fuel in the exhaust .. to get both situations occuring you need to run a weak mixture ..
weak unleaded fuel mixtures are very hard to ignite so you often get the case on closed throttle where the mixture doesn't actually ignite in the chamber but in the hot exhaust .. hence an explosion in the exhaust .. the popping and banging!
If you want less pops and bangs one trick is to richen the mixture enough to get it buring in the combustion chamber, a rich mixture also burns more quickly and at a lower temperature than a weak one, so the exhaust temps drop .. if any unburnt fuel does get into the exhaust it won't then explode.
the lack of pops and bangs on the car in this thread, coupled to the rectification of the poor town manners *suggests* the mixture has been richened considerably. Why this has been done at the overrun part of the map though (as seems to be the case until we hear otherwise) i don't know.
There are some lovely touches in the mbe ecu that make it particularly suitable for a performance road car based aftermarket ecu, but you need access to them all if you want to exploit them of course.

That would indeed suggest a general richening of the mixture .. in fact when you go slightly richer than lambda 1 you get slightly better fuel consumption, since the lambda 1 mixture is actually one at which hp has already started to drop off . so a slight richening gets you extra hp for any given load, so economy in steady state improves because the combustion is more efficient..
to see a reduction in economy it would have to be significantly richer over a wide portion of the fuel map. A very curious state of affairs if that is what has happened.

BT - Try using the Tesco 99, that stuff really increased my popping and banging, If that doesnt work, nothing will! I would really miss my P&B's so I do sympathise with you.
Just reading on another thread about someone putting this in there Tuscan and they had pops and bang all over the place.Does anyone reckon this will make a difference to mine or am i clutching at straws?BLUETHUNDER said:
