Why do we speed?
Discussion
Driving to work this morning I had this thought in my head.
What makes motorists feel the need to exceed speed limits on motorways.
a) Because its fun
b) To get where your going faster
c) To be rebelious to governing bodies
d) Because you car said so
e) Because going slow is boring and easy to loose concentration (Inspired by the Italians)
f) to p### #ff the people who drive at 40 in a 60
What do you think?

Had an interesting discussion with a new associate (IAM group) who rides a very old GSXR1100 very fast. On the subject of speed limits, he says he doesn't look at what the speedo says, he just rides according to what he can see in front of him and what he feels comfortable with.
If we didn't have to live in a nanny state with somebody to tell us all the time exactly what to do and how to do it, I guess that's how we'd all ride/drive. Only problem is he keeps getting fined by the BiB.

Think it also depends on what car you are driving, I just had a very "spirited" drive down in my 360 to the dealership (for a tubi exhaust to be fitted) and then back home in a loaner avensis diesel. In the dancing donkey I pretty much speeded all the way, in the avensis I felt not the slightest need to even approach the speed limit!
Good to see I am not alone! I've spent a year and a bit now in Germany and it has only fuelled my need for speed, but also a better driver.
Im afriad that when I eventually get back to the UK I will not have my licence for long. I know the consequences but I still speed on open safe roads, it just makes sense. I would never speed where it endangerous anyone else, the bolt on boys cover that category.
Whats the punishment for 150MPH on a dry empty UK motorway these days?

I agree with so many of the above comments, its just fun plane and simple. Listening to the engine screaming, feeling the pull under hard acceleration and worrying if you will make it round the next big corner. Its a rush of excitement, getting those sweaty palms when your chasing the guy in front or overtaking the big truck slowing you down
Its the sheer fun factor or driving like a tit ( and pretending your pro racer - come on we all do it! ).................i wanna go for a drive now and im stuck at work till four

Because it's fun, but then you don't even need to speed - I had one of the best drives of my life trying to keep up with an old motor bike in a Landrover Defender about 4 weeks ago - I doubt the speed ever went above 50 MPH (back road to Coniston) It was brilliant, but my fuel shot down like nobodies business.
