Fiat Panda 1993; Tune Fire nagine or swap?
Discussion
Anyone have any information pertaining to a suitable engine and gearbox that will swap straight in to a Fiat Panda? May go turbo (Uno?) but wish to explore every avenue first. Car is to be used every day so do not wish to go 'banzai' (if indeed that is at all possible with a Panda?).
You want to tune a Panda?!
The Uno Turbo was the old SOHC engine used in the Fiat 127, X1/9, etc, so it bears no real relationship to the FIRE engine in your car.
I can't imagine why you'd want to waste the time and money, but if you are serious, I'd have thought that a bigger version of the FIRE unit (eg, the 1242cc version out of a Punto) would make for an easier swap. 6 speed gearbox out of the Punto should be a possibility, too.
Having had the misfortune to own a Panda during a particular low point in my motoring career, I'd suggest that you sort the brakes and handling, first, though!

It is a joke type thing of coarse and although I fully appreciate the total lack of credibility that these cars have, after owning my Dads 94' Panda and using it nearly every day for neigh on to three years now, I find myself strangely affected by the cost freeness of ownership coupled with the fact that I had always relished the idea that if it had broken down at any time, I would just leave it and buy something else.
With regards to the brakes and suspension, any ideas?

Wolf Racing seem to do some pretty impressive upgrades of the FIRE engine:
