After years of dreaming of one, I'm finally in a position to buy a 996 (budget £25K max).

I would like to ask the experienced 911 owners what are the "must have" extras/options you should have on the car, & then less importantly any nice to haves ? Looking to keep car for 2 years, so want to sell on for max resale possible.

Secondly I have noticed a couple of GT3 kitted 996's for a tad over my budget.. does the GT3 kit make them harder to resale ? I'm assuming the insurance would hike up due to making the car more enticing to thieves ?

Thanks in advance for any advice

If it's purely for the driving experience I'd go for one with the sports pack option. This gives you firmer suspension, 18" wheels, sports seats, traction control, and an LSD I think.
Metallic paint obviously good, and I think leather was standard at the time.
Check this one out at www.pistonheads.com/sales/107003.htm
I bought it new with these options, and believe it's the third owner selling it now.
It also had upgraded sound system I think, can't remember what else.
Can't really comment on the GT3 kit as regards values, but it does look pretty good.

Easy one this:

* Metallic
* Sports Seats
* Factory sports suspension
* 18" wheels
* PSM

Nice to have

* Cruise control
* Sound Pack
* Factory sports exhaust

Anything else is down to taste.

The GT3 styling pack is fine providing it is factory fitted. Any aftermarket aesthetics would send most of the next buyers running.

- Remember, the key to solid residuals are standard cars.

The one extra I'm sorry I didn't look for is the sports exhaust .. Adds a whole new dimension to the car.

I'll probably end up spending a packet getting it retro-fitted

Hi mate

I bought mine about a year ago a 996. I read that as there were so many of them produced that to ensure good resale to go for a fully loaded example. I did this and am very happy with mine. Although I wish I had held out for a sports exhaust as well.

I agree with the previous posts although the standard suspension package is spectacular already if your struggling to find an upgraded one.

Lowest miles yougest age and best toys! And try and get one with a Warranty prefferably Porsche although mine was from Cridfords and came with their warranty.

Look forward to seeing the pics

Go year 2000 on with the electronic throttle. Generally much better build quality.

Thanks for the replies all ...much appreciated

Just phoned a reputable Porsche specialist this morning who is going to look out for one for me.....I'll start a different thread on the subject, as the difference in prices he was quoting & what people are advertising was a bit of a shock !!

might be worth checking if the mileage is authentic too. this is apparently not to be taken for granted. now more than ever, caveat empor.

nervy, youre such a cynic. if you buy on condition then the mileage is irrelevant

btw, isnt the question "what extras are essential?" a non-sequitur?

id think you would always pay 2-3k more from a dealer so i guess it depends if you need to part/ex. Privates the way to go tho!

if it isnt, its certainly poor semantics. these people need to learn that theres well good beauty in language, and that.

and if it isn't either of those, it's probably an oxymoron. Tho' given that things like "floor mats" are an "option", I'm not so sure ...

Does anyone have an opinion on the 'GT3' aerokit on Carreras?

IMHO I love the look of the factory ones but although I'm sure that there is also a small performance enhancement I can't help thinking what would I say if I was looking at a 1.2 Saxo made to look like a VTR...

That said I wouldn't ever discount a car with it on that basis at that end of the market where history and condition are the most important factors.

Should be "it's" and "there's". Shocking punctuation. The world's gone mad.
