My Vixen S2 (CWB 754H) was also sold by AB Gelders in 1969. Not sure if the company is still going as Tony Gelder died last year, but they may still have the TVR sales books (now a Volvo dealer). When I spoke to them they were able to tell me who my car was originally sold to and what the specification and the price were (£1240!!). Gelders telephone number was 0114 268 6400. You could also try Sheffield City Council archives, who for a modest fee will send you a copy of the original registration entry if they have it - 0114 203 9395.

Aphelion,
I didn´t know Tony Gelder died. This may be the reason I didn´t get a reply
to the letters I wrote him.. I know from the DVLA who bought the car from AB Gelder, but I really like to have a copy of the sales bill from the first owner.
Do you know if Tony Gelder saved also the paperwork from that time?
PS I am still looking for two former owners. The first owner Mr. Richard Perry
from Solihull and the third owner Mr. Nicholas Bullen from Peterborough. I
tried everything but still no succes. Do you have an advice how to find them?

I believe it was John Lovell at Gelders who might know if they still have the sales books from their TVR dealership. If they don't want to hold on to them maybe the TVRCC might? There are probably still some cars not on Mervyn Larner's register - mine wasn't until I contacted him! As for other subsequent owners I have no idea - I still have many gaps in my Vixen's history.

I don't think it will help you unfortunately, as you already know the original owner of your car. The document in Sheffield Record Office will show when the car was originally registered, the registration number, and the name and address of the owner. Was John Lovell at Gelders unable to help you? Their records should include the original invoice for the car, with price including any optional extras. Is the Griffith you entered in the NL 2002 Spring rally a 1960s or a 1990s one?

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I wrote three letters to AB Gelder, but never got any
reply. I asked for a copy of the original invoice. Maybe
it´s to much work to look it up. Did you get a copy of
your invoice? Do you mean the Spring rally of the Dutch
TVR Car Club? I was with a friend he drove in his Griffith 5.0
from 1993.

Yes I did. As far as I recall he disappeared from the 'phone for a few minutes to look up the sales book and then was able to tell me the details I needed. From that I assume that the records were still at his car dealership (this was 1999 I think). I just wish now that I'd asked for a photocopy of the sales entry! Does the TVRCC have any idea of the whereabouts of the records - I believe Mervyn Larner was aware that Tony Gelder had died, but I don't know if any approaches were made to his estate.
