This new bomb is quite large.
21,000lbs. That is going to give someone a big headache.

So, if it gets used against Tie Rack, how exactly will it be deployed in such a way as to do minimal harm to innocent civvies? (Having read the news from the "Mother of all Broadcasters" - the Beeb...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2842619.stm)

Just what I was thinking - can you get Tuscans and T350's in that one?

Its a Fuel air bomb, it seems. That is a nasty bit of kit! It comes down on a parachute so you can see your doom arriving.

MOAB is an upgraded version of the "daisy-cutter" bomb
and weighs in at 21,000 lbs ( a tad under 9.5 tons) and a blast radius that will destroy anything within a 300 yard radius.

The world's largest non-nuclear bomb.

Presumably one of these "smart bombs" we keep hearing about that can magically avoid women and children. Or maybe not

Not the world's largest bomb, i dont think.

The bouncing bomb of Dambusters fame was 22000 lbs i think.

Marki- you are quite correct. It is a conventional bomb using GX slurry.

Hmmm WOMD Orange! or Armageddon Rosso Pearly-gates!

My favourite must be Radioactive-nuclear-winter grey.

Swilly _ barnes Wallis designed both the Bouncing Bomb (9,000 lbs) and the 6 ton "Tallboy2 and 10 ton "Grand Slam" which was the biggest bomb.. However Grand slam "only " contained 9000 lbs of explosive. the remainder was casing to penetrate U- boat pens.
He also designed the R 100 airship and the Wellington bomber. The bouncing bomb was not declassified until 1972

I like the bit in the BBC write up that says it could be used for underground targets...it is an air-burst device according to them as well
