Hi quite interested in running a 1.8 k series vvc on megasquirt. Firstly can megasquirt control the vvc mechanism? Also to use it for injection and ignition do you need other modules than the cars original ignition components and the megasquirt ecu?

Cheers Harry

You might be better off asking those questions on the MegaSquirt forums

There's a good post here about it.

I can't remember if the VVC mechanism is just a switch or variable cam phasing. If it's a switch then it'll be very easy to configure MS to trigger one of it's spare outputs at a certain RPM.

VVC is variable rather than on/off like VTEC. It's a very clever system that gives up to 75 degrees adjustment in duration, though no change in lift.

Hmmm, in that case, you'd need to figure out how it's adjusted. You can quite easily drive a PWM or similar system from MS. Depending on how much work you want to put into it, you could rig up a 'scope to the MEMS ECU and observe what the standard ECU does to drive it and at what revs/load.

Alternatively, I believe the Emerald ECU can control VVC.

Yeah it is different to the vtec as it doesnt just go on and off. Might be possible to measure the output from the ecu at different rpms. Do you think it would be possible to run it like a vtec so when it comes on it offers maximum duration and when it goes off it gives the normal duration? or would this give poor running
