Bought and made in the US, or made in the UK?
Discussion
It's going to be a bit of a balancing act with costs, also lhd/rhd conversion to consider. I would think most companies in US have build agents who are experienced with building their kits so that may be the best option. However, you are likely to have to go through SVA etc when it gets to the UK so having a UK builder would make it much easier to build it for UK compliance, lights, steering etc etc. It may be cheaper importing parts rather than a complete car too for tax reasons..

as said above i reckon the VAT and duty could be very relevant. VAT is obviously 17.5% and i "think" duty is 6%. Therefore you might as well add on 25% to a cost of something to get it into the UK.
Therefore if you could buy the kit unbuilt versus built, then it would have to be 25% cheaper to have it built over there than over there.
Coupled with the fact that the US guys may not konw anything about SVA requirements, and if anything is wrong with the car, you will have to ship the WHOLE car back to them. If something is wrong with a bit of the kit, then you only have to send one part back- much easier and simpler.
in fact, there would have to be some very very good reasons to have the kit built in the USA, as by default i would build it here- we have some very accopmlished kit builders in this country anyway.

What is the concensus - is it cheaper and easier to buy a kit and have it built in the US and ship to the UK, OR ship the kit from the US and have it built in the UK?
What do you think are the complications with each scenario?

We can help, if you like. What kit is it anyway?
