Ok so the story start a few weeks back... I get in to the 7 one day to hear some clicking when I turn the key. Then after a few attempts no electrics. Turns out that I was blowing fuses while the starter was trying to turn over. I replaced the fuse with a higher rated one on Caterhams advice and all seemed to be AOK.

This week same problem. I have given the starter a friendly bit of encouragement with the aid of a hammer and got it going so my original suspicions of a wearing starter are pretty much confirmed. So now the question...

Caterham offer a couple of starter motors but I hear the name Brise mentioned a load and I can't seem to find who sells them. I have a 4-2-1 exhaust so fitting is a bit tight and I want to explore the options before I buy. Can you guys point me in the right direction please?

cheers in advance.

"Brise" is Brise - google them - they sell direct - at much cheaper prices than via Caterham, natch. I and a number of other R500 owners, have the latest one with internal soleoid and so far, fingers crossed, this has performed superbly.

duh - Thankyou. I'm sure I tried this before and couldn't find them. Now I look and number one result...

£250 is a bit steep though!

Depends on what one you go for. I didn't pay a lot more than £136 for mine - not near the £250 you've been quoted

I assumed we were discussing the Axial one with the integral solenoid?

I just got a Brise one fitted by James Whiting for about £250. Nice chap, excellent service.

Feels like it's kicking the crap out of the flywheel it's so powerful. It's also tiny compared with the standard starter so doesn't live so close to the hot exhaust.
