I am taking my 450 (keenly resisting my other half's urging to give the car a name) down to 'Car & Bike Installations Ltd' at Petersfield tomorrow for a key conversion and to have a separate remote fob for the boot.

Has anyone had this done and experienced any post operative issues?

Thanks. Owen

Had my Chim done by Carl. Top bloke, and no issues at all with the conversion. Makes using the boot so much easier and puts an end to those incidents at petrol stations when you forget to pop the boot before getting out...

Top bloke Carl. He's one of very few who work on Tiv's with only positive comments against his work - have never heard a negative.
Lots done on both Griffs, always fair value and always a top job. I live in Brum and he was the only guy I would trust to change my immobiliser so I paid for him to travel up.

Had mine done by Fernies, £150 IIRC.
Great job, and an essential mod as far as i am concerned (forgetful in my old age when getting out to refuel, which seems to happen quite regularly!. No probs since installation.

Question???

What is the 'key conversion'? I understand the desire to change access to the boot but I don't understand what converting the key will do.

All in one blipper/key like a conventional eurobox key. Carl does this too. You then lose the GM head on the key.

An excellent job..I am one very happy Larry. I stayed to watch Carl work on the car and found him to be a total professional with huge knowledge and expertese on TVR alarms (and a pleasure to talk to). Delighted I had this done.

There appears to be a 3rd alternative to the key conversion. I was at Racing Green today to pick my Chimaera up after a service and noticed what looked like converted keys. Turns out that they are Tuscan keys.

Furthermore, it turns out that blanks are readily available and you simply put the electronics from your Meta key fob into the blank and get your key copied by a key-cutter, of course, and you're done.

Cost is £7.99 (inc VAT) plus the cost of the key cutting.

Mark, you must think me rude but I missed your reply in the euphoria of new ownership! Still having an absolute blast and the weather has held up brilliantly. The key conversion and boot remote has been a real bonus...just added a leven fuel cap too! Oh and put two new Toyo's on the back...and er she's booked in next week to have a battery conditioner fitted (not that I have any sense that she really needs it at the moment...) By the way, have you ordered the new Tiv yet!? Owen

Owen,

Mot yet, Trawling through the classifieds might consider a £5k se wedge if one arises. Despite the promise to myself and the wife I cant see the garage being empty that long.

I've got a Mod-Wise boot kit sat in a box at home collecting dust, if someone wants to make me an offer...

Woop, just ordered a pair of those Tuscan keys from Racing Green - £17.54 including VAT and delivery... could have just gone 2 miles up the road to the TVR Centre and picked them up myself I suppose but I expect they would have charged £40, knowing what their prices are like...

PS sorry to anyone intending to buy these from Racing Green - these were the last 2 they had in stock...

The difference with Carl's key conversion is the pretty TVR logo button is binned, as the hard disc eventually breaks the circuit board underneath. It's not just a key conversion - my blippers had died/almost died, so the alarm needed a reprogram - not something you can do for £7.99.

Remote boot thing is fab - and no probs a year on. I did discuss with Carl at the time a useful addition would be a little capacitor to store enough energy to do one boot pop after dead battery. Dunno if he's done this yet but it would be great to get straight to emergency release handle without adopting 'secret' methods.
