I live in the lovely Leighton Buzzard and recently recieved a speeding ticket, although it wasn`t me driving was my dad, ha-ha!! Not the point though, bedfordshire police authority has to comply with the high visibilty camera legislations, which includes their mobile camera vans. However the ticket said you were caught bla, bla, bla using a "portable" camera. This confused me cos i thought they were mobile so i looked in the attached notes and it says that portable can mean:
"In areas with high accident rates etc, etc casualty reduction units can be set up which do not have to comply with the high visibility legislation etc, etc" Basically it is saying that a unmarked police car can park on the side of the road and secretly take pictures of you "speeding". This is a discrace and clearly makes a mockery of the legislations laid down to prevent exactly these sort of underhand money making tactics. Has anyone else had experience of such cars or have any views on this subject. Incidently i totally agree with any high visibility deterents being used to slow people down on dangerous roads.

Bloody hell - where on the Hockliffe road? The only sort of detection i've seen there was plod with a hand held gun peeking over the top of some parked cars near the Vets. I live 100m from that road, and use it several times every day......... Is it the same thing with the wires over the road? How long ago was this?

I wasn`t driving, my dad had borrowed my car, but he said he didn`t see anything so it wouldn`t surprise me if it was the car with the wires. They got it him on the 22nd of february at 10 in the morning.

Don't worry they've been doing it down here in Bournemouth as well.

Observed on the evening of Friday 2nd March a fella setting up a portable camera in Wimborne Road. About 15 minutes later passed the opposite direction and the man + "camera van" had disappeared leaving the camera happily clicking away (my Bel550 was pinging off like mad).

Of course all this completely flies in the face of the APCO guidlines, but I doubt if they give a shit about that. Of course if you get nicked the ticket stands...
