It’s taken me a week just to get to grasp the “new” F1 scene; I am still a little cloudy on a number of areas, as I suppose are most people.
To add to this I was just looking at the Le Mans (Sebring) dates and they have stirred my curiosity.

A 12 hour race in North America? A 24 hour race in France? Really fast cars…
And I know very little about it…

Is it worth watching/keeping up to date with?
And more importantly, are there many British cars/drivers taking part in the race

Can anyone give me some information about it?

Well TVR is going to be at Sebring.

I recieved this email from the TVR mailing list.

For the first time since 1962, TVR is getting ready for a season of international motor racing. At 10am Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, the De Walt sponsored TVR T400R will start the 12 hour GT race at the famous Sebring race track in Florida.

We hope to do more international races during the season, maybe even Le Mans, but we will be taking it one step at a time and the first step is Sebring. The track is notoriously tough and it will be the car’s most gruelling trial to date. Our all British driver line-up of Richard Stanton, Richard Hay and Rob Barff will have to be at their best to show the car in the best light, while doing their best to pilot it to the finish of a race more than six times as long as last Sunday’s Grand Prix! On the pit wall and in the garage will be a team made up of engineers from Race Sport Salisbury, Chamberlain Motorsport and the TVR factory.

I will let you know how we get on.

I'm definately going to be watching Sebring to see how they do. Hope they kick some P@#%$^ ass!

ashr,

Le Mans has been the world's premier sports car race since 1923, usually with a lot of British teams and drivers.

Don't confuse it with ALMS - the American Le Mans Series - started a few years ago, and quite good in its way.

There's a great deal of enthusiasm for the 'real' Le Mans among PistonHeads members - take a look at the ninth item on the Gassing Station page (Le Mans, strangely enough!).

You will get all the answers you want there. It's a long race (24 hours), and most people watch the first few hours and the finish, with endless partying in between. A very social event.

If you're a diehard enthusiast you'll watch the whole thing, but it's only interesting if you know all about the teams and the drivers. If you don't want to go to France for the race Eurosport broadcasts it well on TV, and you can listen to the excellent Radio Le Mans on your computer.

I'm afraid you have a problem with F1 - learning the new rules takes hours, and they will probably be changed in detail as the season progresses. I wish you luck, and happy viewing/spectating!!

P.S. I see you've just joined. Welcome to PistonHeads!!
