HELP! Can't remove suspected malicious folder.
Discussion
A couple of weeks back I found a suspect folder in my IE contents folders. Basically it’s a sub-folder whose id is a bold vertical bar and a g (Ig) near as I can reproduce it and it’s showing at 3.5 Mb.
Try to delete it and just get a window saying file name too long. Have tried emptying IE history, but no joy. Have tried deleting it in safe mode, still no joy. Have even deleted IE but Windows Explorer still shows all the folders. Even tried renaming it and doing a cut and paste to a CD but it won’t let me do that either.
Norton AV shows no virus, but I can’t believe something so big and stubborn isn’t malicious, so anybody have any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the bastard short of formatting my HD?
When I originally posted about this Firefox was suggested – how/where can I get it?
Thanks.

What happens if you open a dos window in that directory and do a manual "rename" ? You'll have to copy exactly how it is displayed, call it a shorter name and DEL it.
PS. Is it locked as well? If so get hold of the very useful Unlocker free program from here - http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ this kills processes and unlocks items better than CTRL ALT DEL without screwing up your explorer.exe

Opening a DOS window? Now you're getting beyond my basic IT skills. If you can tell me how I'll give it a try.
And yes, I think it might be locked as some of the things I've tried seem to bring up an 'access denied' window or similar telling me I'm not authorised to do anything with that file.
Thanks for the info.
