Hi All,

At the moment i am sharing a house with 5 freinds at Uni. We have subscribed to NTL with a 10mb cable internet connection.

However on my computer the internet runs really slowly because my mates like to download videos and games from Azurius etc.

Is there any program out there that i can use which can give me just a set decent amount of bandwidth(the download program seems to take priority, especially when people are uploading from them, whilst my internet is more akin to an old 36k). We are all connected to the same hub.

thanks very much,
adam

Only way I can think of that you could do that would be to build a proxy with bandwith limitations..

Have a look into smoothwall ... it runs on very low end hardware and should be able to give you something along the lines of what you want...

hth..

If you can get onto your mates machines then you can throttle the bandwidth that Azureus uses - say give each person 15% of the total so there's a surplus for browsing, etc.

If your downloading files, use a download manager like FlashGet, that'll open up about 20 connections to the file your downloading and providing there is nothing doing fancy load-balancing on your network, you will get most of the bandwidth

you could possibly do this through settings in your router?

That's the first placed I'd look. Failing that, the second simplest method is to throttle the file sharing applications (that's probably what's causing the problem) by getting your mates to change their settings.
