Max car for Min money
Discussion
Hi guys and girls, long time no speak, for those of you that remember, last November I got made redundant, and amongst other things they took my company car back, so I've been using the trusty TR8 to get me about.
I've now landed a new job which does'nt pay a third of what I was earning, but its a start back into the world, so I needed another car for work but on limited budget.
How about a 1997 Rover Vitesse, one owner from new, full history from day 1, full leather, climate control, electric everything, heated seats, stack CD/cassette player, had £2500 spent on it last year alone, goes like stink 2litre turbo, all for the sum of £1350.
I like it.
cheers

I bought a 420 Turbo a couple of years ago and it is probably the best car I have owned in terms of fun and value for money. I have done 20000 miles and nothing has gone wrong. It is fairly quick (wife has got a Chimaera so I have to put it into perspective) but I am in no hurry to get rid of it. It is very much a wolf in sheeps clothing - It looks a bit of an old mans car but sorts out the majority of boy racers and matches the cosworth for performance. It eats front tyres though.

Ian - you going to Hen and Chicken tonight?
big rumbly, I had one as a company car in BRG in about '93. Was a salesman of CAD-CAM systems in those days, so drove all over Europe with it.
Problems:
1) Under bonnet fire (minor)
2) When cold in the night, bimetallic strip in horn would deform & make the horn live. I slept through it, mostly. My neighbours didn't.
Advantages:
1) Massed ranks of Beemers in Germany left you in peace
2) It handles surprisingly well, even in the wet on cheap tyres

Podie said: Rover 800's were real dogs... and never particularly well received by the press IIRC...
How about a Granada Scorpio... or even one of the ugly bug-eyed later Scorpio's... cheap as chips...
Yeah, but the Vitesse Sports (ie, the 200bhp, big wheeled, lower suspension) models were actually very well received in the press.
I had one and loved it. The only dodgy thing was the ride, which was a bit hard, but it would do a solid 150mph and it was 100% reliable. Looked good too. (traffic warden in Brussels gave me a ticket once and marked it up as a Rolls Royce Vitesse!)
My partners Scorpio of the same vintage really was a pile of cack. We dumped it back at the dealer after 18 months cos everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING had gone wrong with it (some more than once) in that time.
Speak as you find I say.
