So I have a new mic/headset thing (Sennheiser PC120) and I plug it in and I can hear everything fine. Awesome. However, when I try to use the mic it doesn't work AT ALL. Idid the 'test hardware' thing in Control Panel, no joy, I'm reaching the end of my tether and it'sreally starting piss me off. Yes it is plugged in properly.:P

Thanks.

Open the volume control.

Is the Mic channel muted?

None of it seems to be muted. Also, I can't actually see the mic in the volume thing. It just has 'Realtek Input Device' or 'Realtek Output Device'. I don't really want the Realtek thing but I dunno if it's going to hash up my sound entirely if I uninstall it.

Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices

Click the Advanced Button

Options>Properties

Select the Device name in the drop down list at the top.

Find Mic Level and Line In make sure they both have check boxes next to them and press OK

If the mute box is ticked on the mic/line in levels untick it, if the levels are low, turn them up.

Click Close/OK

Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices again

Click the Audio Tab

Ensure that the Sound Recording default device is set to your Sennheiser thing.
