Did anyone else see this tonight? That biker that got done for 128 mph was a bit lucky....he was slowing down from 170 at the time!! There was some interesting stuff as well like the policeman that said "the speed itself wasn't dangerous" to the same biker! Seemed a bit contrary to his employers opinion.
yeh watched it - What would be interesting would be to watch it whilst plugged up to a heart monitor
Mine felt like it was racing
That idiot lorry driver - well embarrssed police man!
:O Big dent to Volvo and pride - handled himself very well thought - just as he pulled the driver out of the cab by his throat!
The chase with the scroat volvo was a bit hairy
and unfortunately the fatal
Good programme
series starts on Tues on BBC1

I couldn't help thinking though - the cop with the upside down head manning the VASCAR car...........why did he wish to conceal himself so well with his video and VASCAR? Surely road safety on that stretch of road would have been very much improved if he'd been highly visible. The average speed would have reduced down that piece of hill as people spotted him, and of course speed is everything as we know
He achieved absolutely nothing that day except to increase his tally.
He then spent probably thirty minutes farting about with the Irish truck driver up a slip road while the traffic continued at its own merry pace during the time he was absent. Would any of this have ocurred to him had an accident happened while he practicing his assertiveness training with the truck driver?
I suppose it's human nature to want to be doing something proactive even though it may less productive in road safety terms than parking in a high visibility position.
Regarding the lorry and police car incident in the third lane, I think they were both at fault. Whether the truck driver was supposed to be in the third lane or not, we see people do stupid, unpredictable and illegal things every day. It would have been quite risky anyway to have passed the truck at 120+mph in the third lane on a quite a tight left hand motorway bend.
....and while I'm
.....that Volvo T5 parked on the roundabout waiting for the pursuit to arrive with him. Why the heck didn't they just block off the road at that point and nail him. Instead they waited until the drugged-up driver had gone by and then a dangerous high speed pursuit ensued through a town centre resulting in damage to two police cars and the obligatory helicopter being scrambled.
I can't help thinking it's all one big game to some of them.............

Agree, too many ar$eholes about nowadys who aren't afraid of the law and do what they want to you, as far as they're concerned you don't matter, I couldn't go into a job feeling you're likely to meet someone who REALLY doesn't like you everyday....but that's just me, I have respect for the Police (my sisters joining), Army (brother-in-law is in the engineers), did have respect for the Firemen but am pretty peeved off with all these strikes to be honest, and Ambulance drivers don't get it easy most of the time.
The policeman who got nailed from the lorry in the outside lane was at fault. How the hell he expected the lorry driver to see him in his mirror when he behind on a bend?! Unless its got fancy mirrors that see back round bends and he was going 120mph! So he would have had no chance of seeing him. And why was he at 120mph any? He was chasing anyone at the time he saw the lorry so how can he justify that sort of speed?
Watched some of this and couldn't help thinking the Cop who hit the truck was driving like a tw#t, I know HGV's shouldn't be in the "fast" lane but this "highly trained" driver didn't see it coming ?? I mean the trucker was even indicating FFS - just because Trucks shouldn't be in the outside lane doesn't mean they're not.
I don't know what "level" of training this cop has but he should have have been able to avoid this one, to me the golden rule is " always assume the guy in front has not seen you/is a d#ck/has a deathwish"
Just cos he's in a cop car (no lights/sirens) and doing 125mph + Don't assume people will not see you, there are stupid people on the road!!
Having ranted about that the trucker was wrong - but he might be a numptie - the cop is? one of our "finest"
Edited to add: if he had time to bollock/nick the trucker then what sort of emergency was there that justified 130mph. - the man is a danger on the roads and should be removed from them!

I was rather amused by the quote of the pursuit cop who'd been undertaken by a (diesel) Panda car in his T5 whilst in pursuit.
The quote was along the lines of : [jokingly] 'Well I must have left a bit of a gap because before I knew it he was through on the inside of me, haha'
Well:
a) Lack of observation by the officer concerned?
b) Complete idiocy by the driver of the Police Panda car. That could easily have caused a huge accident. Dangerous driving is simply just that, regardless of whether you are wearing a uniform or not.
c) Seemed a very flippant remark to make considering what he was describing, and not exactly an example to the rest of us was it?
Of course most of the Traffic Officers featured acted the total professional you'd hope them to be, but there were also a couple who came over as complete dickheads. The attitude of the guy who'd hit the truck was unreal.
On a closing note, if that road in S Yorkshire really is "death alley" then why on earth haven't the county engineers changed layout to the road to reduce the casualties?
I'll get my coat...
John

Exactly - 27 fatalities since 1998 obviously states that there are serious inadequacies in that road's layout.
Does anyone drive along that road regularly?
The cop in the Volvo was well out of order & was obviously trying to cover up for his mistakes (& reading between the lines he had a few under his belt.)
He was doing 130 on a bend when the mway was about to drop to 2 lanes & he had no blue lights on. If I was driving that truck there wiould have been no way to see him and react at that speed. You could argue that the truck driver was just being a bit premature in moving to the second lane as the road went down to 2.
The cop was then acting like he was for the high jump & tries to make the truck driver totally responsible when it was probably a 50 / 50!
Next we saw same cop having a blow out (again on his way to someone who might be doing 75mph 5 miles away - I know that this time it was an RTA but he was just going to case another driving like that) Agreed it was a big one & he did well to walk away. All he could talk about was how much of a hero he was for not ramming the cars in the inside lanes & killing them !!!
Once again trying to save his neck me thinks.
Well, now thats off my chest, I will go and finish my morning cuppa

Two things in the programme really pleased me;
A guy in a Ferrari got stopped for USING HIS FOG LIGHTS. Yippee! OK, he was also stopped for a dodgy plate but its good to see the BiB taking action on this.
A policeman said the one thing he hated was middle lane hoggers - 'people who turn motorways into dual carriageways'.
Hopefully a few people were watching this and realised what morons they are being.

Youre right - why
The answer is that they are not allowed to block off the road! An esacpe route MUST be left
Its ridiculous - others lives are potentially endangered by allowing an escape
For me just park an artic around the bend - sure slows them down - but it just cant be done.
I remember once being asked to get ahead of a pursuit towards leeds. Stolen car - 4 up - loaded with ram raided hifi. I took the a658 driving parallel to the target car.
I was "chasing no one" it appeared -bear that one in mind next time you see a police car with blues and two's (not always tea time!
)but was giving my all to get infront. You should have seen how many people failed to move over and caused me delay
I got to the junc only for the target to drive round me. Its a real ball acher!
Then West Yorks blocked a crossroads leaving the left turn to leeds open - go on? - yeh he took it and a pursuit went into leeds where the scroat driver crashed into another car at a red light. All 4 got out and ran off.
Its amazing - they hardly ever get hurt unfortunatelt the innocents sometimes do
Seeing that copper who got hit by the truck and then lost it after a blowout does not give me any more confidence in the police. Why the hell was he doing 120 without the lights and siren on? Is this not illegal in itself. He obviously lost his composure because when he pulled the truck over he did not have his hat on. Not very professional at all.
I don't think the tawt with his fog lights on was driving a real Ferrari - looked like an MR2 plastico replica.
