What am I best buying?
Discussion
Hi all
Am soon hoping to buy a Tuscan. Have joined the local TVRCC club and been to a couple of meets and have enjoyed the company!
A question for you experts....
Am I better buying a 2003 Tuscan for say £25k or an older one which I could pick up for £17/£18k and have the choice of either keeping the saved money in the bank for a rainy day
/ or taking it to the likes of Austec or Craft to have all the modern upgrade parts fitted? (for £5-6k) and still have some pennies left over?
I understand that the later is regarded as the better - but is that purely down to engine reliability or are there other component updates that have occured over time that need to be considered?

Hmm interesting question -
I think you should keep your cash earning interest somewhere safe until at least next Spring/Summer,
then see what's happening with prices after the factory has closed before jumping in with both feet
- you never know you might just get a really late 2004 Mk1 Tuscan for less than the 15K you'll pay for an early Tuscan now.
It's going to be a fascinating market place for Speed Six TVRs in the next year or so.

It depends how quickly you want it. Less incentive to buy one over the winter - shorter daylight hours, greasier roads. But maybe lower prices. I took the buy at 18k, modify at Craft route partly because I found the colour I wanted in an earlier car. I don't think there's a right or wrong way. Later engines seem to be better but by that I mean 2005, not 2003. It's a buyers market, so look around. Factory closure in the UK or a halt in production is only going to stabilise residual prices. Don't worry about parts supply. TVR were so woeful at it anyway, most parts can be sourced elsewhere. Good luck, there's never been a better time to buy.

You could always buy one for even less that has all the other major bits sorted / recently replaced... then you'd have LOADS left over if ever another rebuild were needed (not that the engine's given any trouble in the last three years):
Sorry Matthew, NO ads in the forums please.
Must admit I am tempted after reading of Graham Hill's mods to keep it, get it supercharged and make it the ultimate dark horse for road and track. But, for now, it's for sale.
