Any tips for buying winter tyres for a hard tail MTB ? I followed the other thread and reckon some kevlar based ones might be good? What with all the horrible mud (I live south of Guildford and it is very muddy!) then I guess I need thinner tyres? Maybe 1.9 - 2.2 ? any tips on width, makes, material, tread.....?
thanks

The only problem with Conti Verticals judging from about 3 regular riding friends who have them is that they're very prone to punctures. Over the summer I reckon they've each had at least 2-3 punctures but Ive not had a single puncture (touch wood) whilst using Panaracer Cinder 2.25's over the same period running similar pressures etc. One sub zero ride last winter (when you really dont want to keep stopping to repair tyres!) one person had 3 punctures in a single night!
Where abouts exactly are you Gazza, cos Im down that neck of the woods near Bordon, I mostly ride down at the QE Park below Petersfield.

Another request for tire advice here....
I've been running continental verticle pro's for the past year or so. They were great on my spesh fsr and have now transferred them over to my recently purchased 06 enduro.
I've always rated the contis, particularly because of their low rolling resistance. However, i think they are a bit 'small' for the enduro and i suspect i might be missing out on some stability and confidence that a bigger tire might bring.
So, for reasonably aggressive XC riding on an enduro, any suggestions tire-wise?
I wouldn't mind sacrificing a bit of rolling resistance for more grip but would get pissed off if my wee legs couldn't climb as well as they do on the contis.
Any thoughts?

Conti cross-countries were always a favoured winter tyre of mine, I still have a couple of decent ones but they don't make them any more. They are not the last word in high-speed cornering on dry descents (though not bad) but they shed mud superbly and grip well in winter... They also have quite acceptable rolling resistance on road, lower than many off-road treads.
