yes, because without an exterior or interior colour it would be difficult to sell.
(They all feature leather)

personally i wouldnt buy one without :
upgraded wheels
integrated phone
pcm
sports seats

If it is a standard 997 then pasm shouldn't be necessary. And few people bother with the sunroof these days - just adds weight, rattles, spoils the roof line, and not very effective.

Sports seats are popular, heated is nice, cruise is very useful, as is pdc. PSE is very good, but can be retro fitted. PCM isn't great, but is expected. Likewise with sound upgrades. Oh, and Xenons are worthwhile.

Black Interior
Black wheels 19"
Short shifter

the clue was in the question 'what are the essential options'

leather is standard as is metallic paint, therefore neither an option in my book.

for an S:

nav module
phone module
Bose
metallic paint

sports seats, electric seats and sports chrono desirable (although for me I would insist on sports exhaust and not fussede about chrono)

for a non-S:

as above plus xenons and 19" wheels, PASM desirable

metallic is a £600 option, like many you assume no one, not even Porsche, could take the pee so bad they would charge a premium for decent paint on a £60k+ car

Well on the GT3 there is a two-tier metallic paint price: standard metallic £570 and special metallic £1522!
Now £1500 for metallic paint on an £80k car is really taking the p1ss weeping

an essential option is a contradiction in terms

sorry, I'm trying really hard to stay off the soapbox but it's proving just too much soapbox

I cannot be the only one here who is terminally fed up furious with posts along the lines of "i'd like to buy a cayman coxster convertible GT3, what are the best options for resale?"

FFS!!!!!

its YOUR bloody sports car. its for YOU to drive, not some other bugger. and no matter what you get, the dealer WILL, come resale time, INEVITABLY tell you that whatever option/colour etc youve chosen is no longer desireable.

Get what YOU want. DRIVE it. Stop OBSESSING about bloody resale values. By the time you sell it, that tw@t Gordon Brown will have slammed a 50% green tax on it anyway and the residual will have plummeted. You only live bloody once. furiousfuriousfuriousfurious

and..........breathe.........
