I am really in love with my 1999 4.5 Chimaera. I just bought it one week ago and have been driving over 500 km's this last week. Love everything about it (so farr). Except for the door mirrors. Those have - to my opinion - a high Ford Sierra content. I am not sure from which car these have been "loaned". Anyone replaced these mirrors with mirrors complying with the looks of the Chimaera??

Kind regards from the Netherlands,

Hans

They're the same ones as used on Jag XK220, so it's not such a bad heritage...

Although IIRC, they are a Citroen part...*cough*

I would prefer to think they are the same as the ones
on an Aston Martin and not mention they are fron Citroen.
It is completely down to personnel taste, I think they look
fine shape wise, the rubber ridges do however now look dated.
With a Chim they also open the doors, tthe Griff has the same
design but no button underneath.
I have seen ones off a Cerb which are a different design
but still have the button underneath to open the door

There is a mod you can do to change them for VW corrado mirrors. The last 100 griffs had corrado mirrors fitted. All you need is a pair of new mirrors from VW (or ebay I guess) a special widget from TVR that goes between mirror post and door to make them fit right and some rewiring of the electricals to make the motors and stuff work. SOmeone posted on here recently with pics having done it but Im lazy and couldnt be bothered to search. They do look good and apparently you can actually see stuff in them unlike the wobble glass citroen mirrors. Its high on my list of upgrades - behind the new suspension and cherry bomb exhaust !

Edited to add: at least I think it was corrado...some kind of VW anyway

and edited again: I think the cerb ones are also the same VW ones.

Not entirely true, the passenger side one suffers from having the quarterlight obscuring it. They are narrower and more tucked in than the originals and I think that's why. I'm happy with mine nonetheless.

I remember chatting with Andy Holden at Racing Green shortly after had done the swap on his beautiful Griff' and he remarked that rear vision wasn't as good as with the original mirrors but that they did look better.

It's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I much prefer the originals to the VW items.

When these mirrors are used on some of the Aston's (Virage i think!), they don't have the 'O' rings and are smoothed over and fully painted. This may give the cleaner look without the loss in vision. ?
