My friend was selling his mitsubishi last week and some one phoned him with this conversation :-

Hello are you selling your car?
YES
Is it a Mitsubishi FTO
YES
Is it in good condition?
YES
Is the interior in good condition?
YES
How about the body work?
YES
Can I come and see it?
YES?
Tomorrow night 5pm?
YES?
OK see you then and hangs up!

Would have been a good idea to ask the adress!
Needless to say he didn't hear from him again.

Last time I sold a car I couldn't believe how many people called, seemed enthusiastic, booked a time to come and then didn't turn up.

I think its because basically people are nice and after they hear about your car don't want to be negative or tell you they aren't interested, so pretend they are and then just cant stop

Good friend of mine, just sold his BMW, and had one guy telling him that he was coming down from Aberdeen (to Horley,Gatwick) to buy the car!, how mad is that for a very clean 7 year old 520i but with high miles.

Friend managed to explain that the car might be sold by the time he arrived, and the guy saw common sense.

He sold it later that night to a Russian guy that drove down from Brum with 2 of his mates in tow.

Utter maddness for a car thats two apenny in the classifieds.

Convinced that said car will soon be seen on Crimewatch in connection with Russian Mafia

Depends if it's a specialist car I suppose. When I sold my capri I advertised it on a specialist Capri site, I had interested parties from all over the UK. Mind you look at Ireland and his Cerbera.

The worse one though was the guy who turned up, having driven since 6am from London and despite having numerous pictures of the car, waited until after a test drive etc to phone his Dad about insurance, which is when he discovered he was too young to insure it as it was heavily modified.

Not a TVR but I had a classic Rover P5B for sale. Little joy until a pleasantly spoken chap showed great interest over the phone, I provided all the details and was honest regarding condition etc as the chap was located in north Scotland and had travelled the previous week to Somerset to see a car offered by a trader and mis-described.

He agreed to travel down the following weekend which he duly did with good lady wife and two mature children in tow for the seven hour journey.

He introduced himself and his family on arrival at 11 am (5am rise for the 7 hour journey), looked at the car, sat in it, started it, scratched his chin and then took me to one side.

He said you have stated the condition of the car correctly and its priced exactly right but I dont want a P5!!

11.15 and he walked down my drive and drove off for a 7 hour journey back home.

The only consolation I had was that as his back receded down my drive I could hear a number of expletives from his family loosely around "waste of our time", "you have already seen several so why have you changed your mind now", "you fickle....."

Ah well, sold it in the end to a chap in Essex who dropped cash off and drove it all the way home - proper job.

Had a chap come to look at my old Sub P1. He said he had always wanted one. He drove it for a long test drive, never went over about 4K revs. When we got back he said that it wasnt very fast and he was going to buy a Clio 182. Ugh? But you never put your foot down.
