I wrote a pretty comprehensive comparative review on them for Ars Technica that should answer your question

To put it another way, while I wait for Forza II to be released, the only game I find myself playing is Forza I. I don't think I've bothered with GT4 in months now. The AI is just so terrible compared to Forza it's not even funny.

I thought Forza was better, reason being, I played all the GT series and it was when I got to GT4 that I realised NOTHING had changed from the first one

Forza was fresh and new and hopefully number 2 will bring some of the same.

The thing that made me laugh a lot when I heard it is that GT HD for the PS3 when it comes out, is just GT4 pumped up to HD graphics....way to go Sony, what a great launch rofl

Not only that, but you have to pay for each car you want to use online, at about £2-5 per car.

While quite funny it's not actally true rolleyes There is a lot more the GTHD than GT4 in 1080p. But it isn't supposed to be GT5, just a stop gap until 2008, more like a GT Prologue for the PS3.

Also the car pricing has not been anounced for Europe yet but judging from the sugested Japanese prices, they should be a lot less then £2 -£5 /car.

However I have to agree I have become a bit tired of the GT series. Mainly due to the lack of racing. When you enter a race you have no idea if your car will be fast enough and the game has no ability to match the oposition to your car. So half the time you are either; out in front on your own or flying round in 2nd or 3rd without a hope of keeping up let alone passing 1st place.

In fact I spent most of my hours on GT4 drving round the ring in free practice mode hehe

I Presume you're talking about Vision GT? If so, there apparently will be more cars on track at the same time as well, the number 20 sticks in my head.

GT HD also comes with ready made Ferrari goodness in the form of (at least) the 599GTB and F430.

OK, but Forza have licenses for Porsche and Ferrari. And I know for a fact that the 997 GT3 RS is in Forza II

Like others I was a die hard GT4 fan. It was all I played on the PS2. When Forza was released I never played it again. Sold my PS2.

GT is shocking.

Forza seems to handle weight transfer and tyre behavior much better than GT. Also, the AI on GT4 is so very very very bad compared to that in Forza. In GT4 the cars just drive the same line, and don't take into account anything else on the track.

yes I found handling realism in Forza to be miles ahead of GT4, the cars I have experience of handle about the same, the ones I dont handle the way I've heard/read that they handle. You do have to drive *properly* to get good results, trying to drive it like some other games tends to produce understeer followed by a spin, you do actually have to brake and slow it down for the corners etc, weight transfer seems to be modelled fairly well too.

Car choice is good(I like having the classics there as well as modern stuff), and I like being able to mod/upgrade cars, and play round with setups etc (difflocked 550 bhp 200SX makes a nice drift-toy). Some nice tracks too, good to have the 'Ring, but my current favourite is the Fujimi Kaido hillclimb. (4:47 in a tuned Zonda, anyone have much better?)

There are a few small things which annoy me about it though:

* CBAI (name borrowed from the review posted up the page) - Cheating B@stard AI, I get so sick of getting rammed from behind coming into corners, or getting stuck behind a faster car on the straight which then instantly loses 20km/h off its corner speed right on the apex when I'm behind it with nowhere to go.

* Sound in races - they do have some nice engine notes, but I have no idea why they thought that a car 200m away would drown out your own car, especially when the cars are identical. its just ridiculous at times, I can't hear the 600hp V8(which would be 6 inches behind my head)in the GT40 because a Fezza 355 has just come onto the straight a couple of seconds behind me. Makes it very difficult to race when you can't hear your engine, so have to try and watch the rev-counter at the same time as the track/other cars.

Both these problems are solved by just playing in free-run mode, which is what I usually do, sometimes trying to break my lap records, sometimes playing drifties, sometimes just driving. The driving dynamics is good enough that even when just driving it takes me a long time to get bored of it.

Only found this out a few day ago, but you can can race against any cars in your Forza garage, by going head to head in the "Train Drivatar (or something like that)" section. It changes the colours of the cars but its still great to race against your own creations. (how slow am i in picking that one up?)

Its added another couple of weeks of game playing to a game that I thought was dead.

I was a real GT nut for years. Went back to it after playing Forza and it just felt so lifeless and stale, not to mention easy.
