HPI - stolen and recovered, how is this updated?
Discussion
My golf was stolen from the dealership where it was being serviced. It was reported to the police, and subsequently recovered about a week later. Its currently being repaired and i hope to get it back in a few weeks.
My question - is this now going to show up as "stolen" on an HPI check? I don't want to have any problems when i come to sell the car. Who updates HPI? Do the police do this automatically? Do they only do this for cars that have not been recovered? Anybody know?
Thanks

HPI is updated from main police computer at Hendon for all stolen vehicles on daily basis and as such should be updated when vehicle is recovered. However if an insurance company is involved in the return...i.e. a claim made, it is possible that they could place a marker showing..stolen/recovered, which in return makes the cars value plummet at resale....Would suggest that the garage concerned give you a printout from HPI at time of collection for your benefit and rectify and adverse info asap. Another well known member on this board had a problem after an accident when the dealer got rid of the old shell and notified DVLA that they had scrapped it....in turn plod turned up some time later to check why the supposed scrapped car had been involved in a cherished transfer....(DVLA took the money though)...being involved in the recovery business myself, I did several checks with DVLA for the customer until it was finally resolved but it took ages and many calls to insurance etc. My advise is make sure the info is correct for yourself.
