Hi,

Just got a 172 from a camera van. 68 in a 60 overtaking a slow bmw in my Tiv!

Has anyone used the PACE process sucessfully?

Will I need a solictor and if so who can you recommend?

How much will they cost?

It appears that very few have failed with it, when they have stuck to their guns and not capitulated - and followed the Pepipoo process properly...

I got as far as a Summons for an appearance in court and bottled and pleaded guilty by post.

Got whacked with a punative fine and costs and still got 3 points on my licence.

£205 (£170 fine, £35 costs)

So evidently a punishment for daring to rock the boat and not pay the Fixed Penalty without question like a good plebeian. rolleyes

God, the risks seem high.

There must be someone on here who has done the whole process!

If memory serves one Phr did go to court for the 172, but his case was based on a nip that was bounced between him and his brother for months...

Cant rememer his name though...

So basically I try to either string this thing for 6 months +, at which point it's out of time.

Or do you the PACE loop hole and hope they drop it before court.

If they don't, I end up witha bigger fine around £300 and still get 3 points and whole pile of S**t in the mean time.

Oh, why the hell didn't my laser detector pick them up in the camera van?

Cos they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot - they would only go off *if* the copper hits the laser sensor on your detector, and *if* he holds the button down for long enough.

Most of the time they aim for your number plate, which is sufficiently far away enough from the detector to make it useless, and even if it did go off - it's just saying "tough, you've been caught" rather than "slow down, you might get caught".

Laser detectors are snake oil, right up there with Ecotek valves in my opinion!

I have - they dropped the first one.

I am currently in process for the second - which they are taking to court.

It's simply a game of chicken. Who is going to bottle out first?

The whole premise is to get them to drop the case before it gets all the way to court. Has anyone actually been all that way and won in court? (genuine question)

If it's for an offence that's only likely to result in 3 points in court (the usual 35 in a 30 type), there's not much to lose is there ? Assuming you can afford a couple of hundred quid in costs, if the PACE thing doesn't work, it seems worth a try.

Yer sure is only a few hundred in court plus a day's income (IT Consultant) so it soon mounts up.

What I was expecting was 5 saying yer it worked for me and another 5 saying it didn't. 50-50 type.

Instead no one seems to have tried or won.

I responed with PACE statement last year. The Pre-Trial (which I did not have to attend) was postponed twice and the case was then dropped.

I was not informed that the case had been dropped so after hearing nothing for 6 weeks I rang the court and they told me.

I phoned the camera partnership and they said it was dropped because the speed camera operative had died.

I never got around to chasing to find if this was an excuse or was true. Anyway I got a result. Always worth a gamble in my opinion.

Incidentally I would have probably called the court the day before to change my plea to guilty in order to avoid losing a days work. AS I understand it you can do this at any time.
