A lucky escape.

Driving home from station last night between Staines and Laleham, 1230am.
In a 30 zone, when high visibility jacket emerges 200yds ahead. I've seen them on this road before.
Anyway hit the brakes as i was over the limit and then pull up to a stop next to the officer, holding his hairdryer.
Officer: "Evening sir, hit the anchors a bit quickly there didn't you."
Me: "Er, yes...sorry."
Officer: "If you know the limit, then stick to it please."
Me: "Ok, sorry."
And I went on my way. I think I was lucky (unless something comes through the post now).
I thought it was intelligent policing - was it the fact that I was obviously paying attention, stopped and the lateness of the hour that saved me, or just a lenient officer?
I'll certainly be driving to the limit from now on.

*IF* it's police, the speeding is probably a complete side issue - they're there to look for drink drivers would be my guess, and catching you speeding would be a good reason to breathalyse you.
On BBC Traffic Cops ... Cheshire police were boasting about their road side breath tests which they did on the Alderley Edge/Wilmslow road are on the show.
They targetted only those above the speed limit.
What a suprise ..
None of those speeding tested positive... und they were not done for speeding either as

We were only targetting for drunk drivers. Only if their speed was way OTT did we prosecute
er.. what ist the "mantra chant again" Ach ja.. "speed ist supposed to kill everyone"
I wonder how many drunk drivers got aways with it then.. as past research claimed that those who have that extra pint do drive a lot more slowly than normal
und you can still hit, hurt und kill something below speed limit because of that sluggishness from the drink..
