Just spoke to the garage - one of the cams is worn and the follower is bent. Bugger!

Anyway, bit of advice needed chaps

The warrantee company won't foot the bill as the cam is worn and not broken.

The engine was rebuilt 20 months ago at the factor at 19,000 miles. It's covered a futher 15,000 since then. I've just mail Jason at the factory for some suggestions.

So what are my options, apart from foot the bill myself?

Also, if I do foot the bill, ie new cams, followers and probably valve stems etc, who would be the best place to go to? I was thinking of putting different cams in?

Cheers
Rich

My best suggestion is that you ring round the companies you know to whom I refer and ask explicit questions. I myself have posted plenty on here as to what you should be asking each of them. Then you make up your mind who seems the best suited for your requirements/budget.

good luck

my suggestion is to fit higher lift cams and tune the bugger up! No point in spending money to keep it as it was...

Cheers fellas

I am thinking of having it mildly tweeked - rather than massively as I like drivability.

It's still in the dealer at the mo, I'm going to have a bunfight with the warantee company before I agree the work though! mad

If the warranty will not cover wear and tear, could you get them to put it back together and drive it 'til it breaks?

I haven't followed that line yet, but apparently as I've made a request for support they still wouldn't cover it.

Avalanche - might of done yes, I was in Europe a bit last year!

Richard Hi,

I asked if 22,500 miles was deemed as "end of life" for my engine with the wear and tear issue that I had with a warranty company. Be harsh, and use the peoples ombudsman if you get the run around. You paid for the warranty after all!!

Its an insurance company you are dealing with, they employ technical people to talk you out of a claim. £5,000 is hard to earn!!!!!

eerm.... was rebuilt 20 months ago at 19,000 miles. It's covered a futher 15,000 since then..... That looks free to me.

Im sure I read a thread where TVR say the expected Life is greatly more than yours, therefore providing your car has been serviced in line with the manufacturers requirements then how can a warranty company not pay up. Wear and tear can then only occur because of a faulty part(s), ergo a defect; ergo, covered under warranty.

Cause lots of aggro and they will normally pay to get rid of you and then refuse cover at the next renewal.

All you owners with Factory backed warranties....have any of you contacted the factory and asked if your cover will be affected in any way due to the closure? Will cover be transferable to a new buyer if the car is sold on second hand?

@rse!

The warrantee company don't cover 'hardening breakage' on the camshaft but I think this is a load of tosh!

How can something be running perfectly one minute, then 40 miles later sound like a bag of spanners?

Getting frustrated by this, the warrantee company is now saying it won't even sound out an engineer!

If I recall correctly, Justin Baker had a similar struggle with his warranty company, due to his dog like persistence I think he got a circa 50% settlement. If I am wrong I am sure Justin will correct me on this, but it may be worth your while touching base with Justin and ask how he went about his claim.

Further more the mileage you quote is not conducive to normal wear and tear it is therefore in my personal opinion a subject of component failure and as such I would expect a warranty to cover the replacement cost. This really does call into question the worth of such warranties. I have never been one for investing in such schemes for this very reason.

I wish you luck

Yes - this is very true!

The car has onlt covered 15K miles since a rebuild, and the diagnosis is that the follower has unduely worn - ie from good to worn out in 70miles, and hence worn the cam lobe a small amount.

I'll email Justin, and Co who had similar problems to find the best line of attack.

It's now a battle against the pathetic 'oh it's not covered sir' patronising insurance company! mad Persistence is the only way

some good advice from other PH's. It sounds like your are currently dealing with them over the telephone. I would suggest you gather your thoughts and set them out in a letter to them. This is documentary evidence of your claim and will be necessary if you end up having to refer the matter to the FSO (Ombudsman).
