I am currently unable to lock my car and therefore also unable to set the alarm from the remote plip.
Have checked the batteries in the plip whcih are fine but strangely the spare also does not work.
Last week the car battery was almost flat after two weeks stood without the trickle charger plugged in - I have heard the alarm can lose its memory if this happens thus needs to be reset - but this involves lifting the dash to access the unit. Any ideas please?

Don't know what make of alarm you have, there are different procedures to program transmitters on various makes of alarm. If you have a Foxguard and need to know how to do it e-mail me and will send info.

On my Griff you can get to the alarm control unit by:
Taking out the glove box - you can't do this obviously but you might be able to reach behind the dash & get to it?
OR
Taking out the stereo head unit & it's mounting cage. This should give you enough access to *just* get one hand in. The control box is a black fag packet sized box, it's roughly behind the top left hand corner of the stereo apperture *maybe, it's a TVR after all!*

Disconnecting it for 10 minutes resynched my plippers to the unit.

Had exactly the same problem on mine recently. I got Racing Green to lift dash and reset, they had to supply new remotes. Which incidentally work much better than the original ones (1998 car), better range. They did say that disconnecting the battery can sometimes reset the alarm and allow the original remotes to work. They were a bit concerned about doing this without the new remotes - don't know why, may be worth a call to them.

I had wondered whether or not just disconnecting the battery would have the same effect as disconnecting the black box unit for the alarm but I will give the dealer a call to check on this first - or does anybody know if this is going to cause any other problems.
I did start to have a look into lifting the dash on Sunday, but found that where there should be nuts to undo on the bolts from the underside of the dash, there were actually smooth collars attached to the bolts. I tried to undo these with pliers but the whole bolt started to turn rather than the collar coming undone so don't really know how to get these off - incidentally the is one bolt round the back of the dash which I had been told could be tricky - this one had a lose nut, easiest one to get off - typical.
