348 Parts Prices
Discussion
Hi all!,
I have been considering a 348 for a good while now. I currently own a VX220 which i am going to keep until at least Spring next year.
The 348 has been my dream car for a good few years now, but as always, i have been put off with the scare stories of massive running costs as it's one of the older models etc.
Because of this i have considered other cars, but in my heart i've always really wanted the Fezza.
I've just had a look on the scuderia parts website and was very shocked to read some of the prices, here is an example:
www.scuderiasalesandspares.co.uk/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app.pl?usr=51F9176330&rnd=4731445&rrc=N&affl=&cip=217.79.109.232&act=&aff=&pg=cat&ref=348Year89-94&catstr=HOME:Brakes
£65 For 'brakes'. I take it they mean brake pads. But £65?? Thats only £130 for a set, surely that can't be right?? Everything else seems so cheap as well!
Is the main reason why these cars are regarded as so expensive to run because of the labour charges?? Or is it the repair bills when Major things go wrong??
I do have a very basic knowlegde of cars, have changed the pads and filters etc, on my VX before. I know it's a completely different beast, but is basic maintanance on a 348 possible?. I do know a few people that have a much better knowledge of cars than me that would probably be willing to give me a hand to. Obviously i'd still take it to a specialist indy for servicing (also to make sure i keep a service record)
Or should i not even be thinking this as i should really take it to a specialist for everything??
I only ask as comparing some of the part prices on the scuderia website it makes some of the VX parts look comparibly expensive!!

Basic maintenance on a 348 is easy (filters/brakes/clutch etc).
Like the guys above have said, service items are reasonably priced. The pads are the same as a 911, that's why they are cheap. BUT Ferrari-specific parts like foglamps/AC controls/glass/rubber mouldings etc can be silly money. People like Scuderia Sales and Spares and QV London can help a lot, but these bits are still pricey.

Hi
No there arnt really...Ferrari are not that well served on the pattern parts front (unlike Porsche)........just to giuve you an idea my 328 needs a new n/s front foglamp lens...........lens unavailable on its own so its the whole thing and they are £330 + VAT....I have been looking for a used one for a year, but no luck.......these are quite low volume parts so I guess the tooling up for pattern bits would be too costly...........dont be put off from buying a car though, you only live once, just go in with your eyes wide open. Good Luck.
Running a ferrari can be expensive, but not as much as most people think. e[pends on how much of a perfectionist you are.
You can always source used parts from just phoning around companies mentioned above, plus the likes of Verdi etc.
There's a lot of info on the 348 here: www.the348.com/tech/348.html
There's also this thread which provides details of alternative parts:
