My 99 ZM Coupe (s50) is great.

It goes like the clappers and is IMHO a great looking car. One minor gripe is the comparative lack of aural feedback. Ok maybe I'm being harsh, the engine does sound pretty mean at 7000+ rpm but still, having heard a CSL being thrashed down Chelsea embankment, I want more noise!

Any suggestions? I dont want to change the backbox as I want to keep a standard look.

Does it have a middle box? (ie two silencer boxes) Get the middle one replaced with a piece of pipe.

Mine had a custom exhaust system put on it by the previous owner and it sounds pretty evil. The problem now is that it has so much bass at low revs it regularly sets off car alarms and wakes the neighbours.

Hi all, I collected mine, ('99 Silver S50 also) yesterday and to hear that you think they sound dull suprises me. I like the noise, but, if you have ways of making it sound better then I'm interested. Any owners going to the VW meet?

I have to agree, the ///M's (Roadster and Coupe) don't sound like they go. Try Eisenmanns on the back (www.eisenmann.co.uk/ ), they look stock if you get the smaller diameter tail pipes but sound a WHOLE lot better. Bit pricey new (£700-£800ish) but the zaust is quality kit (got mine second hand for my old M Roadster).

Supersprint suits the S50 engine best IMO, it compliments the 6 cylinder perfectly and keeps it raspy rather than bassy

Without changing the rear mufflers you are not going to change the sound, apart from a minor change if you start fiddling with the intake etc. But get an Eisenmann, Supersprint or Remus, or even a Hayward & Scott kit, and you should be a happy trooper.
