HELP !! Is there something wrong with my immoliser ?

HELP !!!

Came to my car about 90 minutes ago and the battery was a bit flat. After a couple of turns it packed in. So, I whacked my battery charger on. Now teh charger is saying "fully charged" but nothing happens when I try and start it. If I turn it on and try and start it without turning the immoliser off then all the lights go out. Then I click the immob button and the dash lights come on, turn the key, the fuel pump starts. Hit the start button or turn the ignation and nothing. It's like it's immobilised.

Is there something I need to do ?

Have you tried pressing the little immobiliser thing/keyfob into its dock by where your left knee is when you drive?

Sounds like a loose battery or starter motor connection

Did you connect Direct to the battery or onto the starter. Firstly check the fuses on the bulkhead IIRC one is for your starter motor!!! Prob find you blew it when charging if you charged from the starter.

Spot on Lloyd !! I checked the bulkhead fuses and one had blown. I replaced that and away it went. But, in the time I spent faffing around after that the batery has gone flat again so I need a new one.

So, my next question is : How do I get the battery out ? I've read you jack it up, take the wheel off and remove the wheel arch cover.

But, how do i get the wheel off ? Does that round centre bit just snap off ? Or do I unscrew something ?

Depends age of car...mine has a "hole" cut in the undertray just behind the battery(looking at it from the front of the car), so it is a case of lifting the car, getting underneath undoing the 2 10mm nuts either end of the clamp that holds the battery down and then turning through 90 degrees and it will come out through the hole ( remember to disconect the -ve first then positive). Can be a bit fiddly but once in the air should only take 15 mins or so!

As they say, Practice makes perfect. Did exactly the same myself. Spot on with changing the battery, As Alex says dissconnect the -tive first. You should have a big plastic spanner to undo the centre nut and on the end a little metal pull out bit, put it in the small hole and spin the centre while pulling lightly it will come off in the end. Just don't crack it.

I had a quick look under the car and there seemed to be a grid like square hole where the battery sits. I'll jack it up and see if it will drop down through it in the morning. A believe it's a type 75, is that correct ?

I was most ditraught ! I've only had it a week !!!

FYI, I don't believe the grid-plate is under the battery but you'll see once under there.

I tried changing my battery on a ramp and failed so I would think doing it with a jack would be near impossible. Best way is as you said by removing the wheel and side panels. You will still need to jack it up as the battery does drop out the hole, Just impossible to undo the fastners from underneath.
