Hi Guys,
Took my car in for Annual service on Thursday am about 10.45. Arranged to collect the cat this (Sat) morning. Just before taking the car in I filled it to the brim with petrol - petrol station about 3 miles away. Collected the car today and noticed 1/4 tank of fuel has gone. Disputed this with the service manager. He states the technician needs to test drive the car - how far I ask? About 3 or 4 miles he replies. Well that isn't 1/4 tank is it? He checks the mileage on booking the car in - this is recorded as 30 miles less than is now showing but I am sure they did more before they recorded it. I am now waiting for the service Manager to give me an explanation. He agrees there is a "discrepancy" with the mileage and is going to ring me next week when he has spoken to the technician who worked on the car.

So in preparation for the barrage of excuses that will come my way next week, what is involved in an annual inspection? It may seem petty but I am convinced because I left the car with them 2 nights someone has been using it to go home in and will no doubt have thrashed the ar5e off it and I did not give permission for my car to be used as a runabout for someone.
Thanks
Vron

Speak to the dealer princpal. I received a congestion charge fine from someone using my car when it was being serviced once - photo evidence very useful of course - someone got the bullet over it I think.

As he said. Dealer principal. Do not take any excuses or any prisoners. Although you cannot prove anything, the damage to your trust in them is bad enough. That requires adequate compensation, monetary or otherwise.

Could they have left the car running in the yard before service? .. That doesn't account for the 30 odd miles but may explain the quarter tank used.

When I got my old 996C2 back from a service I noticed McDonald's wrappers under the front pass seat. The boys had obviously been using it for the lunch run (never eat at McD's) and had added several miles to the car.
I told them that if no-one owned up I would ring the police & report the car had been used without my consent - that seemed to sort it pretty quickly.

A quick trip up the road & back is acceptable after a service, but no way accept that 30 miles is a normal road test if this is what they are saying.

Even if the mileage is correct, would you expect to burn 1/4 tank of petrol on 30 miles? What milage do you get to a tankful - if it's more than 120, then they must have been thrashing it DAMNED hard for those 30 miles.

phone the DP in the first case. Then put it in writing.

Friend of mine took a car in (not a Porsche) for a 2 day item of work. Received the message "just a few more days Sir", which took it over the weekend.

Got the car back to find the previously full tank now empty, 300 extra miles on the clock, sandwich wrappers under the passenger seat and... someone else's CDs (6 of them) in the changer!

Oh, and to add insult to injury they hadn't even fixed what it went in for!

He had a rant with them and walked away. It wasn't the kind of garage to give a sh*t

so the moral is take a note of the mileage when you drop it off and agree with service guy

Exact same thing happened to mine. Large amount of petrol used and steering alignment all to cock. Had a strop in the reception and wheels made subject of a free four wheel alignment. I now will regularly mark the mileage prior to dropping it off. It would appear there is a culture of the mechanics thinking they can use the vehicle as there own when it is in for service.

Take the car in with lamost no petrol. one thing you can be sure of a grease monkey wont want to put petrol in your car to take it home, he will simply select someone else's car with more petrol. Might even choise his own if car if everyone did it.....

I agree witrh the petrol idea after I saw mine heading in the opposite direction to me on a dual carrage way, as it was a Saturday I spent the whole weekend getting wound up and fretting, when I got to them on Monday (beleive me I was the 1st through the door)the boss said he'd taken it home as he felt it would be more secure in his garage!!!(80ll0cks) I do get mine serviced at the OPC in sussex now and I've not had a problem with that since.

Again not a Porsche but when my RSI went in for a new sump gasket (warranty work) I got a call at lunch time from a mate of mine, “Alright mate, saw you on the bypass this morning. I saw you coming up behind me and knew it had to be you from the speed and plate but I was in one of the works cars. You were a bit tight on with a couple of those overtakes though.” Me “Err Barry what are you doing this afternoon? I’ve been in Birmingham with Ross all morning and dropped the car off at the garage last night, fancy a trip to the Renault dealer?”

The next service only cost the trade price of the parts though after a few words…

Hey at least your car got a road test. Also when these guy's do a service the car is left running for quite a while on the ramp etc. Also any of you guys filled up your tank and it not registered full. I agree no excuse for Mc rubish in your car though

Well,
Waited for service manager to ring me on the following Tuesday, he didn't. I ring him on the Thursday. He says he cannot offer any explanation to the mileage discrepancy but admits there is one - and will give me 20% off next service. I ask him to confirm in Writing, guess what I am still waiting 2 weeks later. I know someone has been using it to go home in on the thursday and friday nights and show off in but I cannot prove it. I will give it another week then write to the Dealer Principal.

20% off your next service? They're making you take it back and they'll only make up the 20% with add ons. When I had a dispute with a kent OPC they gave me £250 cash back. I still wanted to put it through their showroom window the lying low lifes.

I know it was only a Fiat Panda, but twenty odd years ago I took my wife's BRAND NEW car in for it's first service (1000) miles to find the brand new spare tyre had been swapped for a second hand mud stained one...rage

A threatened call to the local Police soon sorted it out with a £200 bonus....hehe
