Well the Laser Alert module that goes with my Road Angel (part of the special EVO mag offer from Networx Automotive) arrived this weekend. Connected it up, but it's hard to know if I've put it in the best spot and whether it would actually be much use if I was targetted?

Any one else using one and actually had it detect a laser gun? Any thoughts on positioning?

Have to say one of the things I like about the RA is how easily you can swap it between cars. The Laser Alert makes for a bit of a messy install unless you want to hide all the wiring away behind trim, and hence make it less portable. I suspect I might end up not bothering with it and just use the RA on its own.

Does a laser alert just warn you when you are being lasered? If so, unless you have a jammer as well it is a waste of time. It only takes a fraction of a second for a laser to get your speed, so when detected it is already too late.

I thought that police bods take three readings and normally use the lowest of the three? So if the laser mod detects the laser and you slow down to an appropriate speed. You "may" get away with it...

I think that by the time the unit registers laser its already too late. Need a jammer to stop from getting a reading, snooper 920 I think. Sorry about rubbish grammar, inarush

Would a laser detector pick up a car in front of you getting lasered and give you a bit of potential early warning that way, or does it only work when the gun is aimed right at it?

I'm nervous about spending my hard-earned on a blinder if there are test cases going on that could seen them effectively outlawed.

Don't think so, AFAIK the laser is a very small beam and needs a direct hit on a detector to be 'seen'. I have heard of detectors being positioned on dashboards not picking up direct hits on number plates.
