Hi guys
my first post on the porsche pages
I' ve recently been fortunate enough to purchase an upgraded 997 tt from Rob the owner of DMS Automotive and all I can say is that the car is truely awesome-580bhp, bettter exhaust note, lsd etc.
Without wishing to exagerate when I took delivery of the car and drove back from Southampton to Manchester such is the wonderment of this car I was close to tears-such is the power and grace of this machine
I expect the old school will continue to knock the 997 tt for sometime but others know different-for a relatively small investment the 997 tt can be upgraded into a car that realistically can only be matched for performance and drivability day to day( snow, rain etc) by perhaps 3 or 4 supercars costing hundreds of thousands of pounds

Thanks once again Rob for making me a very happy man

Cheers Dave G

Im sure its quick alright....by the way your a brave man considering that DMS have very... very small limited experience of tuning a 997tt.... rumour has it that DMS has turned the overboost into a permanent feature with the 997tt...Question is ... Why didnt Porsche do this as standard... Does DMS know something that Porsche does not know..... ANSWER IS NOT...!!!!!!!!!!! Wait for the BANG...!!!!And the repair $$$$$$$$$

Scaremongering as usual.Do you honestly believe porsche produce a car at the maximum of its abilities straight from the factory?,if they did there would be no aftermarket products available...i think the guys with their modded gt3s on track days may say the standard car could definately be improved on wouldnt they?Porsche produce a car that they themselves can make better in a few years time to make more money. Is the cayman s the best Porsche could have made it or are they holding back something there as well.?You can actually find that the abilities are reduced on a car by the usual emission regulations etc and the car will run better with the restrictions removed. Many manafacturers build a high spec car/engine then soften it a bit either to make it more marketable or to get through regulations.Jap cars and bikes restricted to 286bhp or 100bhp for example under jap law are clearly being held back as is restricting a merc sl/bmw m5 to 155mph,take the restrictors off and they can clearly go quicker/better without any damage, imo of course.

i agree always a risk that modded cars will pop but ive been running an overboosted car(250bhp standard to circa 400bhp) for yrs and up to now never blew up on me-perhaps to now ive just been lucky as i serviced it reg/tlc etc
further more 996tt relatively easily makes 600/650 bhp
i dont believe 997 turbo is long term not going to take this and more
time will tell-till then ill continue smiling
like surgery you have to trust your surgeon -there will alwys be risks but if you want to drive something that really gets your blood pumping then have faith and take the plunge as you only live once - in my opinion dms know what they are doing-they are clearly on the cutting edge and i am already in discussions re a gt2 hybrid turbo upgrade for the 997tt to lift power further to c. 650

Cavanagh-u wont be dissapointed -the porsche is a serious piece of kit
enjoy it mate
words dont do this car justice
from a standing start momentarily the car is so powerful on hard acceleration the car appears to spin all 4 wheels and will jump slightly out of line sideways then grip and you are off into the horizon you''ll love it!!
a mate of mine wanted an aston-drove my car and cant stop talking about it
let me know next week what you think of it mate
cheers dave

Kayc, hes not scarmongering, its a fact. The 997 VTG turbos are completely unproven and not known if they are reliable when exceeding 500bhp. I have been told that they arent particularly strong and if you want to make more power its better to swap them for K24's....

But im sure the DMS car is no where near 580bhp,

all the best

I wouldn't normally agree with what Kayc says, but on this occasion I have to!

A lot of uninformed people seem quite happy to have a pop at DMS for their upgrades, yet a quick look at the early tuning mods to the 996 TT by the likes of Techart, RS Tuning, Gemballa etc shows them to be no different to what DMS are doing now, ie ECU mods, replacement exhaust, air filter, cats etc.
The fact that the "established German tuners charge way in excess of DMS seems to be taken as wrote because they're German !

DMS seem to have plenty of very satisfied customers on here ( and I have no doubt if they had had experienced problems we'd be the first to hear about it !!!!! )

Instead of instantly knocking anything British, perhaps the soothsayers should wake up to the fact us Brits have a wealth of motorsport technology available and are actually rather good at making cars go quickly !

The only thing I have heard regarding the 997 TT is that there are concerns that the variable geometry turbos are at the edge of their flow capabilities (hence the time limited overboost available) Whilst this may cause problems running at sustained high speeds on the German autobahns it would seem unlikely to be a problem on our gridlocked highways !

Hi Adam, can not agree with you there,if this 997TT is the same one or same power as the car Rob brought to the last Vmax,580bhp appears reasonably correct.I hope Dave has the GT2 mods done and comes to the next Vmax as this meet is building up to be the best of all.hehe

Have you got the car on a rolling road to confirm these figures? I have never seen any customer of DMS coming up with a rolling road print out. No doubt there would be power gain from ecu reprogramming but I haven't seen any concrete evidence as I believe they don't have the facility themselves.

Also in terms of torque increase what sort of a figures are we talking about here?

I am glad you are enjoying your baby. Did they give you any idea what sort of torque increase you should expect from the car? As clearly they have stated 100 bhp increase in bhp.

not questioning your integrity mate I thought it would be interesting to see couple of print outs from DMS tuned cars to verify the claims. That is all. Thanks for the info about their new rolling roll.
Are you going to use theirs or an independent rr?

Cheers

Some very strange opinions on here.

VVT turbos "un proven technology". Eh? Did they come from Mars and whilst we are using them, we don't fully understand them? Whilst some many people won't understand them, the manufacturers and Porsche's mappers will understand every single part of them and will have proven their operation to the point of destruction. They will have defined this failure point precisely and then decided where to set the overall performance limits. This will be at a level that allows 100% reliability and the maximum enjoyment.

To consider changing to K24s is to totally miss what VVT turbos are all about. Its like the difference between a propellor engine and a jet engine, or as a better parallel, the difference between carbs and fuel injection. The reason is that a VVT is a K24 and a TD06, all in one. It will spool at not much more than idle and will be pumping full boost at the rev limiter.

Luddites will always scorn new technology but VVT turbos move the game on a long, long way and the days of the fixed blade turbos are numbered.

You have got a nice fleet mate . How fun is the m400 ? I am sure you can't really compare 2wd with 4wd but which one put most grin on your face? Any reliability issues?

I sat inside one once. Just too claustrophobic for me!
