been shooting christmas catalouges for a few weeks.. at last it comes to an end..

just thought I would put this up.. with a 100% crop.. I don't seem to suffer from noise close up in the detail, although compression may well effect this

and if its asparagus you are after...

looking at these.. reducing files from 120mb to 100k does rip them apart somewhat!

lol! Look pretty good to me What's the reflection in the champagne bottle?

Are you spending Christmas here, or in Thailand?

Nice... but you really need a light tent. I did Christmas last month. Aren't those circles of confusion nice and 'sparkly' in the first one. You wouldn't get that with crappy H1/Jap lenses. One reason why I stuck with Zeiss/German lenses and shutters.

Really nice shots. How did you create the highlights on the asparagus, flash or constant lighting? One of the down sides of using a tent is that this the light is so diffused, I dont get any highlights like yours

Wish my Christmas was like this but will have to make do with the inlaw's Asti Spumante, dry Turkey, rock hard roast potatoes and lumpy custard with the Christmas pudding.

I agree... schneider 180mm with a bit of swing from left to right..., I wouldn't knock the H1 that much, the jap lenses are still pretty good its just a question of using for the right jobs.., horses for courses.

I nearly always use flash, some diffused, some not, Here I used 2 boxes and 2 snoots with grids from 4 lights,

you are right about a light tent, ( think I may have mentioned this before!)

chuck it and start mixing with different lights and techniques it will open up your possibilites, rather than one dimensional lighting, its about trying to enhance the subject matter.. and as always its in the detail.

just try different things, different angles, you work to the idea you want to create, balance your shadows, create your highlights and voila, it depends on the look you want, recreate daylight effects, time of day etc..

I see it. A little tilt back and you'd have got the bubles sharp too... can you re-shoot? hehe.
