Hi all,

I've heard a fair amount about Cerberas or indeed TVRs in general being rather optimistic with the quoted power output figures. I have a 4.2 AJP8 which should be 360BHP / 320lbft of torque... but what's the real average that you guys get on the dyno? The fella clocking mine seemed quite surprised that my "standard" cerb was finding 348BHP and 305lbft, he seemed to think that was pretty good?

Yes that's a pretty good figure.

Most 4.2's make between 330-360bhp and 300-320lb/ft.

4.5's on the other hand as std make anywhere between 330-365bhp and 320-350lb/ft.

Not much difference between the two really.

Jules.

just got my 4.5 dyno'd yesterday. Came away with 330bhp! But as the guy doin the dyno said if it feels quick and comes up short on bhp you've got more to play with! l've read 380 390 is reachable. So an extra 50 or 60bhp will feel even better[:-)]

You can extract 420bhp at a push......but a simple remap will get it to near 390bhp

Was that estimated flywheel BHP on an unmodified engine?

330bhp on a standard 4.5 is low, you should get it checked out yes

The car runs fine over fueled low down apart from that the guy that dyno'd it reconed a programable ecu would get things sorted better. Thats not to say his dyno was spot on! And he did the run in 3rd gear which for some reason on the road doesn't pull as well as the others. Strange but truenuts

Where was it dynoed?

Every 4.5 i've ever done that came out in the 320 to 330 bhp region after a bit of a tune up elsewhere came back and made 359-365bhp

The dyno is in glasgow. It was only run on the dyno nothing else. All I was after was a start figure I wanted to see if the guy new his stuff before letting him loose on my baby. had a chat with the guy during and after the run and left happy enough to take it back for the serious stuff. and as he said and I agree until he can start sorting mixtures theres not much point doing anything else.

a bit of history .... hope it helps ... I assume most of the 4.5s have had lots of dosh spent on them by now!!

Cerbera Surrey rolling road day 12/3/05

The results given below are those supplied by Charlie immediately after each cars power run, for both BHP and Torque. These are flywheel figures, but a correction figure applied to these at 19.5% will give ‘at the wheel figures’. I have also ‘rounded’ figures…so if your car showed for example 337.5, this will show as 338, and likewise with a figure of 351.1, this will show as 351

4.5 CERBERA

1.Ceejay……… 392 bhp - 364 lbs torque (engine mods/Emerald)
2.Satman……… 377bhp - 369 lbs torque (Emerald)
3.Cyclone……… 375bhp - 365 lbs torque (Emerald)…. see note below
4.Angusfaldo……365bhp – 352 lbs torque (standard)
5.Katanarog…….365bhp – 345 lbs torque (Red Rose)
6.PaulH…………353bhp – 325 lbs torque
7.MarkJ…………352bhp – 326 lbs torque
8.Blue4.5………...348bhp – 344 lbs torque
9.Richard………..346bhp – 348 lbs torque
10.PetrolTed……...345bhp – 342 lbs torque
11.GCerbera………342bhp – 318 lbs torque
12.Cooperturbo……338bhp – 320 lbs torque
13.Bennett24……...337bhp – 332 lbs torque
14.John.s………….336bhp – 335 lbs torque
15.Neilus………….332bhp – 338 lbs torque

Cyclone’s first run, in standard form, made 339 bhp – 338 lbs torque, which when changing the ECU to an Emerald, with a map copied from Satman’s Emerald ECU, made 36bhp – 27 lbs torque gains.

4.2 CERBERA

1.Carbon Al. …….360bhp – 320 lbs torque (Emerald ECU)
2.Longbow……… 359bhp – 330 lbs torque
3.Slvrcrb………. 351bhp – 332 lbs torque
4.Jonnie5……….. .348bhp – 333 lbs torque
5.David.S………... 345 bhp – 327 lbs torque
6.Jellie…………… 336bhp – 340 lbs torque

INTERESTING STATS….
Average bhp/torque figures, based upon the cars at this RR session, and ignoring any modified cars (Emerald ECU & Red Rose), gave the following…
4.5’s produced 343 bhp and 333 lbs torque.
4.2’s produced 348 bhp and 332 lbs torque.
Average Modified 4.5 car’s (Emerald ECU), produce 381 bhp and 366 lbs torque

Foot note: I have listed figures above as given to me, by Charlie immediately after each run. I apologise if these figures vary greatly from those that you have. Let me know of any big differences and I will change for you…(the odd bhp here and there I wont!!!).

Crikey, that's getting on for nearly two years old now......but that's where it all started for some of usrotate.

Joolz at Trackcar Solutions (then Joospeed)was churning out the first remapped cars via the Emerald ECU, and was also chasing the first 400bhp Cerb that day with Cliff's (Ceejay) car, Cliff's car also had the first Short Induction Kit which they had pioneered to chase the elusive 400bhp.

Things have moved on a bit since and now we also have MBE remapping as well as Emerald, a choice of short induction kits, filter options, larger bore exhaust options among other tuning options with primarily Trackcar Solutions and Austec providing the necessary services.

Jules.

ps it was also the catalyst for some of the most informative and debated threads...

Is it possible to remap the original mbe ecu? Or would i need a new one from mbe or emerald?

Isn't it lovely, a year ago this would have been a popcorn smiley moment, now its just an informed debate.
Unless I missed it, I haven't seen anybody say that the 4.2 mapping is generally regarded as just about as good as it can get but the 4.5 has more room for improvement with a mapable ECU.

Yes it is possible to remap the MBE. You don't need an entire replacement ECU either. The chips in your current ECU (containing the maps etc) can be swapped out.

Thanks steve. going to give mbe a fone get some info then speak to the dyno guy see if he's up for the challenge of getting her up to the mythical 400bhp.

I don't think they'll give you the time of day. I think your nearest Dyno with MBE mapping capability would be TCS.
