I track my 993 C2 quiet a lot, the car is in specialist cars of malton on thursday with a gearbox problem. While the cars in, i was thinking of having a short shift change fitted, anyone here got one? ok for everyday drivability!

No, leave it standard. What you do need to consider are motorsport upgrades to the internals though as there are a couple of common failings when you start racing them. Steve Winter at Jaz is the man to rebuild / uprate it for you. His telephone - 0208 903 1118.

Agreed forget the quich shift liable to do more damage than good. Steel synchro rings same as 993 GT2 might be a good idea though.

OOh, skulks of with his head down and his newly purchased short shift lever hidden under his jacket.

Care to elaborate? I drive mainly on road with a hand full of track days per years. Am I doing the wrong thing?

The problem with the short shift is that you can apply a lot of pressure to the gearchange thus forcing the next gear and potentially damaging the synchro rings and chipping the dog teeth on the gears. As you can guess the cost of a gearbox rebuild ain't going to be cheap.

Does that apply to the short gearchange option on all cars?
